Default Performance tires for the track and such

Yesterday I was at NJMP. I did fairly well (passed E9x M3s and even a new Z06).
I was on Toyo R888, square 265/30/19. After two sessions, the tires became oily and unruly. I know that the weight of the car didn't do the soft compound R888 any favors.
However, I love the R888s for their stiff sidewall.

Does anyone have suggestions/experience with tires when tracking the F that both have stiff sidewalls and aren't too soft (when heated up) to degrade under the F's weight?
I've been eyeing AD08Rs and RE11s.

I started using the RE11 this spring.. They have a stiff sidewall & they seem to hold up pretty well at the track. I ran my best lap ever at Summit Point at the end of a hot day with temps in the low 90s (also, this was the 4th track day with these tires).

Awesome stuff Mike.

I'm gonna go for a square 275/30/19 RE11 setup from my square 265/30/19, most likely!

However, I just found these:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes

Sticky Kumhos made for the ACR in 295/25/19. Diameter clearance wouldn't be an issue..however the tires are wide so that could pose a problem in the front wheel well especially.
Anybody have input?

I have RE-71Rs, which are essentially the improved successor to the RE-11. I only have about 2 hours of track time (8 sessions) on them, but I love them and would highly recommend them. They have fierce but predictable traction and still work well on the street. The sidewalls feel great to me, but I don't have experience with too many different tires..they are definitely stiffer than the PSS tires I used for my first HPDE. When hot, the RE-71Rs hook up really well, but they also wear quickly (compared to my PSS tires).
FYI, they are a wide tire. The 275/35R18s are more like a 285mm or a narrow 295mm tire. I still had no issues running them squared at a fairly low ride height on 18x9.5 +45 Enkei PF01s...just a little rubbing in the rear on the hardest corners after minor rear fender rolling. Surprisingly the fronts were fine.

Love my AD08's. Awesome tires. They stick like glue and actually wear isn't near as bad as you'd think. They are very predictable and work really well with the ISF

I just did a quick search and found a few old report/reviews...some good info showing the capabilities of the RE-71R vs the competition.

I switched from the Michelin Sports Cups to the R888 and love them. What air pressure you running to start? They will get greasy but I start out 28-29 PSI cold and I also switched to Nitrogen in all my tires.

Dunlop D21 full race slick.

280/655/18 square setup.

You want glued sticky give these a go.

My cold start would be in the 24-26 psi cold range looking for hot temps of between 32-34 psi after a 10-15 min. run.

If the hot temps run a bit higher I go lower in the start up.You should normally find the load d side of the car will come up a,little higher than the unloaded. The direction of the track will dictate what side that will be.

For those of you on occasional track duty who still want a very streetable tire in the dry/wet, the new Continental ExtremeContact Sport is the successor to the DW and engineered to compare favorably to the PSS at a reduced price point, and with a 30k mi treadlife warranty to boot! Also FWIW, compared to other tires of the same size, this is a very light tire, despite all the development work aimed at stiffening the sidewalls.

No track time yet, but the racing pedigree that went into developing these is impressive to say the least. My setup is in my signature. A lot of size options, too.

A really nice, in-depth review:

Of course Michelin's answer to Continental, the new PS4S is starting to replace the PSS in more and more sizes as well...

Wow really? I am now on my 3rd set of R888's, this time R888R's which I have not tried yet, but I never experienced what you have, were these the new tires? I noticed that on my first set of R888's it took a while for them to feel buttery, next set I got I had it Performance Shaved and Heat Cycled, that made a huge difference and allowed me to go all out on the first session after warming them up. I love the wear, they get me 4-5 Track Days and traction is superb, outperformed NT05's in rain as well, however, on Thunderbolt, the track does not favor the ISF's weight, need to watch the speed and make sure you hit the apex's right, lots of weight shifting that tends to blame tyres.

On Lightning, R888's shine for me, I've been in them in rain and shine, right now I don't intend to switch to another tyre as R888's served me well.

Which NJMP track did you go to? Lightning or Thunderbolt?

Look no further than the Yokohama AD08R. Michelins are a joke on the track unless it's a cup 2 tires. They don't hold up to repeated track days . I'm speaking from LOTS of experience . Just my 2 cents

Looks like I followed somebody's advice on this thread
Tirerack was offering them very cheap for 265/30/19...apparently they're being discontinued x(

It'll be prudent to adjust camber and monitor tire pressure next time at the track.
Actually, it would be best to start off with a totally STOCK car and work from there, but I guess it's too late for that

Thanks for uploading that link on the new Conti Extreme Contact Sports!............... didn't realize they had replaced the DW's and that they compare so well to the PSS

^^^^Due to my experience with the Continental DW and with the corporate office I will never buy anything labeled Continental again
