Default Front Suspension Noise - Brake area

I'm experiencing an intermittent chopping type noise when driving, its more noticeable at speeds under 20MPH. I'm hoping its not a wheel bearing, but it does to make a metallic clunking sound when the car is moving I've jacked the car up and spun the rim it didn't notice any odd sounds and also tried pulling on each wheel for any "play", which there were none. My dust shields aren't touching anything, and all suspension bolts look tight and no leaks from the struts and the springs look properly seated. The car drives straight, smooth/no steering wheel vibration and doesn't have any other issues. I've read threads on testing wheel bearing failures but my car doesn't show those symptoms.

Few things that may help (2012 w/ 42k miles):
1. front passenger rotor is wearing unevenly causing a lot of brake dusting recently (replacing pads/rotors it this weekend)
2. Swift springs installed (no other suspension mods) stock LCA bushing
3. 19" wheels with Hankook V12 tires.

Please keep me posted. I've went as far as removing my brake calipers and rotors off on both sides and spun the hubs, no grinding or odd noises.

  1. Just saw your thread and yes, my noise is simialr. I had some pads that came with the car, not sure what the brand was (no markings from what I could tell). I removed them and replaced them with stoptech pads and new Brembo rotors. Will see tomorrow if noise persist. Good luck with your issue sir.

Brake pads shift and make noise. If you track your car, the calipers wear inside and this becomes a normal state of affairs unless you want to buy new calipers all the time. It's not a big deal.

I don't track my car and this noise is a nuisance that just started. I'm hoping it is just the pads because that's a cheap fix.

Whether you track your car or not, the calipers wear. The manufacturers work to tolerances. Clicking brake pads isn't unusual at all.

Good luck with the Stoptech pads. I had these and they squeeled and dusted so badly that I got rid of them for the clunking NS400s...

I thought i would update this thread. My noise was coming from my wheels as a some of the bolts that secure the face to the centers were loose. I put on my OEM wheel on to confirm and the car has been noise free for the past 25 miles at all speeds. I will re-torque all my wheel bolts and all should be good.

Well you will find out the problem when you take the pads and rotors off my guess is inner pad worn out, the bearings are hard to tell if they are just starting to go so spin them and use a stethoscope (you can get them at parts shops) let us know what you find. Hey Lobux what part of the calliper rubs on the rotor any pics I find this unusual only if your pads are very low cheers.

it was the wheels. I replaced my pads and rotors (which was my plan anyways) and the noise was still present. See my post above yours. I re-torqued all my wheel bolts and the noise is gone.

So you originally didn't torque your wheels on tight enough, and then again when you checked the pads?

Ever since I got my brakes changed (OEM rotors and Project Mu Ns400s), my brakes click. It clicks the first time I press on the brakes after reversing, sometimes it would click when driving over bumps. Is this normal?

^^^You have the same issues I have. I call it clunking. I've tried everything, including replacing the clips etc with new oem ones which was nothing but a waste of time and money. I posted some videos previously of what seems to be going on if you search the threads.

I think there is something going on with the NS400 pads, or at least some batches. How do do I say this as a good politician without indicting any sources, "I've heard a rumor that some changes are coming to the NS400s". Can't say if this is related to these types of issues or not, but it is coincidental...
