I have been driving vehicles requiring premium gas since my retirement. I like Shell premium on my car. All the manuals came with those cars mentioned this, no more than 10% blend, no prolonged use. Regardless I always stick with Shell premium. At present I drive Audi SQ5 last one out of German plant. Other cars in the family are BMW and MB which call for premium gas as well. Most engines being direct injection type these days it is more so important using good quality fuel with detergent to fight carbon build up.

Default E85 vs Octane Booster

seems like everyone is having good luck with E85 mixture, Simon at RR racing said they have better luck with any octane booster over E85 mix, has any one done any kind of comparision? I tried 3 gallons on my last full up and it felt good but the mind can be very powerfull

Bumping this up, although this may be old news. I occasionally run an E85 mix with good (butt dyno) results, but I never had a way to easily check my KCLV because I could never get my bootleg techstream to work.

I just came across an app (via Facebook group member) that allows you to read KCLV - It is called "OBD Fusion". You will need need the app ($10), a wifi enabled obd-2 reader (~$20-30) and you will need to make an in-app purchase to download the expanded Toyota/lexus PIDs. (~$20). I tested it in my garage and I could now see my KCLV (currently at 18 - ) as well as the rest of the PIDs typically available on other apps.

I am currently on pump gas - I plan to add 3 gallons of E85 this weekend and monitor the KCLV - hopefully to get it into the 20s.

What PIDs did you get? They're listed by year.

It comes with standard PIDs and then you need to do an in app purchase for the Toyota one to get access to KCLV.

I did not take a screen shot of mine - in fact I only tested it in my garage to confirm that it works.

Here are screenshots from the FB person who posted it - looked the same for me.

That's probably way more convenient than using Techstream. FWIW, I checked KCLV on my IS and GS. Running ordinary Georgia 93 octane pump gas, they're both over 21. Both are bone stock.

I bought the app and the Lexus/ Toyota PIDs but I can't find the KCLV PDI to display it. Does it have to be connected to the car in order to see the PDI?

edit:

I found online instructions and I believe the car has to be connected in order for the enhanced diagnostics to be displayed.

Mine shows up even though I am not connected. Maybe because I connected it earlier.

Try this: Go to Dashboard. Press and hold one of the windows (this will bring up Edit Display window). Click Display Configuration. Click PID. Click Toyota Lexus Scion. Click Engine. Click Knock Correction Learning Value.

That should change that window to show KCLV. Took me a while to figure it out.

This didn't work. I think you have to have the vehicle set up first. I'll connect it when I get home.

Good Georgia gas it seems, I'm always surprised at people who are consistently under 20. At now 185k my ISF is always above 22 except right after a map change and it needs to learn. I see 24~ with a E85 mix, usually 22-23 on normal pump.

The real comedy here is I usually buy gas at Kroger or RaceTrac or QT. I hardly ever buy Tier 1 fuels. I used to have a Shell credit card that gave me discount on Shell, so I ran it almost all the time, but my friends at Citibank ended that when my ex let a hospital bill (that I didn't know about) go delinquent and it went to collections without my knowledge. Now I will never do business with Citibank no matter what they offer, and Shell is no longer on my preferred vendor list.

I got the app set up and it works. I didn't take out the car or even turn it on because it's still too cold. Interestingly, one of the PIDs in the app is to display the Alcohol Fuel Percentage. I'm not sure if this actually works but I'll try it once we get warmer weather.

Quick Reply: Will the ISF run well with a blend of e85?
