Angry Failed safety inspection!

So i took my 2010 ISF in for a safety inspection, required by law here, and they failed it cause the tires are wider than the oem tires. Running 245/275 setup. Have you guys come across such a thing?! I figured as long as the tread is good and no rubbing on the body it should pass...
So angry at this!!

Yeah I heard Canada is stringent in the "stance" thing or what ever it is.

I have read that recommended max tire size on a 9" rim is 265. Not sure but that might be what the guy failed you on.

You could try another shop or maybe just borrow a set of wheels.

No he basically said it has to be the size from the manufacturer, or what the door jam says. I'll figure something out, don't know anyone close to me that has an ISF with the stock tires still on...

Put some winters on. Ontario safety cert. process got a little more strict on July 1. If you go thru it, changes to tires are just tread depth got changed, mismatched tires will fail etc, doesent say anything about upsizing etc.

Damn that really sucks! That's a plus down here in Florida. They give no F's about annual safety inspections. You just renew your registration online, you get your new registration in approx 48hrs in the mail. Slap on new decal, replace registration document in car and keep riding!

Are you selling the car or transferring it? If you "know a guy" and he knows it's for you, it should pass.

We were leasing the car, and decided to buy it from lexus, so thats why i have to get the safety check done, so they can transfer it onto my name only.

Technically, wouldnt they have to be the ones to do the safety and paying for it? I mean if i was selling the car, i'd have to do that before for the future buyer correct?

No problem man. I wouldn't go back to the same dumb a** shop and hope for the best, just call few shops around and ask them about your up sized tires and safety checks, if they say that tire size (within manufacture specs) does not effect safety ether demand your money back from the first shop or pass certificat.

A Tire Shop failed you That's even more bizarre This would also mean you guys North of the Border can't put on wider wheels either I think I know who Beverly Tire will never be selling tires to! Keep us posted.
