Default 08 IS F w/ 98,000 mi

Hey all, new to the forum and Lexus as a whole. Currently, I do not own an IS F, but I am interested in one. I don't have a real need for one, but I have a work vehicle so the IS F will literally be a weekend vehicle.

-- If this is the wrong place to post this please move it, sorry! --

I wanted to do some research before I even spent the hour to go see it and test drive it. So why not ask you guys?

Here's the car details.

The concerns I have from the AutoCheck the dealership provided me are:
    1. Only 300 miles were put on it between Feb 2015 and April 2016 (95,694 to 95,945)
    2. The last odometer date is April 18th 2016. Why is it being listed with 97,828 miles? Is this a common occurrence with autocheck or carfax?

Is 98,000 miles too high of a risk to take on at $26,000?

I'm completely open to opinion sand suggestions. I've been looking around at performance cars and most are just out of my spending range.

Thanks guys, looking forward to hearing from you.

Once all the recalls and records of the maintenance done are in check without major damage. Try to get more infor on it.

^^^^Why do all the recalls need to be done? If they are not, the buyer (OP) can get them performed.

    Hi,

First off, welcome to the forum and the IS-F.

I wouldn't be too worried about the low mileage provided the service history is complete on the car. I know US cars have a different maintenance schedule to UK cars, but as long as it has at least one service per annum, you should be fine.

Recall work isn't a big deal. As said already, you can always arrange any outstanding recalls yourself if you buy the car, so that's fine as well.

Mine missed one service because the previous lady owner didn't drive the car much one year. It's not ideal, but I've had it serviced annually since I got it, and so far so good.

Price seems fair provided the condition checks out. May be worth finding another forum member (preferably an IS-F owner) to go with you to check it over? Two sets of eyes are better than one, and he would know what to look for and how it should sound, drive, look.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers.

honestly if everything checks out maintenance wise, I wouldn't turn it down. I just bought my ISF back in may for about the same thing you just quoted(mine was an 08 with 97k miles for 24k) so that seems right.

I would just do a good check like any car purchase. I would check first and foremost to see if the water pump had been changed since I know that's a thing on the 08's

If you're curious about the service history of the vehicle, use the VIN and check it here:

Thanks for the welcome! I'm pretty surprised that 98k is considered low mileage for a performance car. Really threw me for a loop when it was still valued at $26k. Appreciate your advice.

How much does a water pump usually cost? I know for my previous cars they were dirt cheap and easy to DIY, but they were small engine daily drivers. New to the performance market. Is it easy enough to replace at home or is it better to leave it to a dealer or shop?

Signed up for the site, but still waiting on an activation email. In the meantime, here's the VIN if you can do it before I get going on it. JTHBP262885003220

I've also attached the AutoCheck that was emailed to me by the dealership.

Few other questions I have (Sorry, I just want to be thorough lol):
What would be the first things I do maintenance on if I bought it? Cost estimate of the repairs?

Do Toyota dealers also service Lexus'? The closest Lexus dealer is about an hour and fifteen minutes away from me, but there is a Toyota dealer 20 miles from me.

    Thank you!
Few things I gather from this. AutoCheck and dealership say it's 1 owner, and the VIN service records indicate that a woman was the owner. Gonna go out on a limb and guess it was babied and not put at WOT for every interstate on-ramp

Looks like the water pump was replaced in June of 2014 at 84,646 miles. So it's a little over 10,000 miles old.

Went in for every scheduled service and for any warning light that came on.

It's worth it to the buyer whatever he deems fair. If one thinks it's too high, then it's too high for him. And vice versa.
