I was searching my service history on the Lexus Driver's site and found this entry:

SERVICE: RADIATOR-FAN
DESCRIPTION: RADIATOR-FAN ~ ~C/S COOLANT IS LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE ~ ~DIAG AND FOUND COOLANT HEAT EXCHANGER PLATE LEAKING UNDER INTAKE ~ ~REMOVED AND CLEANED AND RESEALED. TESTS OK

Does this sound like the Valley Plate was taken care of?

Yes that's technical FSM terminology. Sweet! Yours was done under warranty!!

Best news I have heard all week. I have a slow coolant leak I am going to diagnose this weekend. Glad to see that this probably isn't it. I do see a radiator replacement because the nipple broke, but don't see a water pump replacement. Hopefully it's just the water pump and not the valley plate again!

It may potentially be covered under warranty if it's been done once already.

If they don't cover it again, I imagine they would at least discount it. It was almost exactly 50k miles ago. Will be interesting.

Thats why im questioning it. both ELF and this are on the same Ticket. at 74k back in 2015.

viprez586 did a little digging and apparently there was an issue with cooling fan motor screws backing out.

Yeah, a whole bunch of us got new radiators through that program. Sadly my fan motor was already damaged and they didn't replace that. It failed 14 months after they did the radiator swap and fan screw replacement. The only way to replace the motor now is to buy the entire assembly with both motors in it. Sucks rocks.

GROOVY. but now I feel mislead about the valley leak reseal not being done on the car prior.

i blame myself for not paying attention to the paperwork and history better. its on me. but the the PPI (with issue concern mentioned) nothing showed up and even had a Tech friend scope and didn't see any indication.

I've fallen victim to this horrible fault in Lexus Designing. i top off my coolant every 2 days. I'm seriously mad that Lexus Hasn't turned this into a recall.. I have a 2012 Lexus ISF with 99k on the clock....

Recall? Why? Design fault? How do you arrive at that conclusion? It doesn't happen to every car. Why it happens to some and not to all or even most is a good question, but the reality is, it's not frequent enough nor it is hazardous enough to warrant a recall. If it were a leak in the fuel system, it would be a recall for sure and we have seen that, but a coolant leak? Sure it sucks if you have to have it done by someone else without a warranty, but it won't leave you dead at the side of the road, and it definitely won't cause your car to go up in flames. No matter how prevalent this actually is, it won't ever be a recall because there aren't enough failures and when it does fail, no one is in harm's way.

No, I did mine when i rebuilt my engine. If I do a member's car I will post a DIY.
It's easy. Remove entire engine harness and bungee cord it up across hood struts.
Remove intake manifold.
Drain coolant.
Remove upper coolant hoses.
Remove some fuel lines.
Disconnect knock sensor/ injector sub-harness.
Remove foam and PCV box.
Remove valley plate aka heat exchanger plate.
Clean & reseal.

Dealers should be charging between 6-10 hours MAX for labor rate. I'd error more so on the side of 8 hrs tops x $1XX.00/hr + shop supplies, parts/materials, tax.
