Hello fellow F'ers

I have been using my stoptech street pads for about a year now and they squeal at low speeds. From 30km/h to 0. I have tried everything. Using shims, without shims, cleaning everything out etc etc.

I read previously on the brake pad sticky that many people had no issues with noise.

My question is how the heck did u guys do it??

Are you using oem shims? Are you using the shims that came with the pad? What grease are you using and exactly where are you guys applying it.

I have done the break in period thing as instructed on the website multiple times. Still squeals. I have spoken to stoptech and they said I have done everything they have done so.. Help please and thank you.

If it helps, I am using the oem rotors in rear and adamrotors up front.

I have no squeal from mine yet...they only have about 2k on them....may change them out they bite good ...still more dust than I want....but about 1/2 of the dust of the OEM pads....you may need to get this and clean the rotors http://www.flexhoneblog.com/2014/07/...with-flex.html

Mine also squeal at those speeds. I've noticed under hard braking there's no noise; it's only when I'm slowing to a crawl when you hear it.

Sounds we've both done everything there is to do so I'd assume it's just the compounds making the squeal.

I do get a low speed squeal occasionally with the stoptechs. I did reuse the stock shims I applied grease between the shim and pad and also on the shim itself where the piston will make contact with the pad/shim area. I think Rselby is onto something maybe you might need to remove old pad material off of the rotor..

Installed per directions, break in per directions. Had a slight squeal at first while they were bedding in/heat cycling, not issues now. Have almost run through a complete life on them and will need to replace soon, plan to use the same ones this time around. FYI, I did lightly sand the rotor with 1000 grit paper prior to bedding, I always do this when i am not replacing/turning a rotor but installing new pads.

Had mine for about a year now (about 12,000 miles + 1 track day). Mechanic installed with original shims and kept OEM rotors. Did typically break-in / bedding process.
No squeaking until about a month or two ago. Just like the others - only with light pressure at a slow crawl.
Squeaking lasted about a month or two and only just recently stopped.

Taking the car in for new tires and a brake check (doing 2 track days in the next two months).
Will report back if anything develops from that.

I have mine for 6 months+ on Centric premium slotted rotors. I do not track but my hiway driving is spirited. I am using the shims that came with the pads and anti-squeal. I find that at low speeds the pads are a little noisy, but no squeal.

Edit: I also followed the bed-in procedure.

Exactly what he said except I've got 5k-ish on mine.

I was very meticulous following the bed-in procedure & was able to successfully pull it off without stopping. I have zero squeal.

Same, I had mine replaced about 8k miles ago and they squeal really loud (in my opinion) creeping at lower speeds. However when I brake moderately to hard, there is no squeal. I guess it's something we have to live with.

I purchased Stop Tech rotors (drilled and slotted) and ceramic pads for my LS 430. I ordered them as a package for all four corners. Buying the rotors with the pads was the same price as having them turned.

I installed them myself, which was duck soup. Used Wal Mart anti squeal grease. No backing plates except the ones imbedded in the pads. Cleaned the pistons with Brake Clean and bedded them with about 5 miles of the bedding procedure. Brake specialists say the bedding procedure is not needed, but I did it anyway.

The brakes worked great and no squeal. Seem to be as good as any product and fair priced. I'd buy them again since the price the dealer charges is a joke. I could easily do three brake jobs in the time it would take to go to the dealer and have them do it. Will do the same for the F when needed.

I have about 5k now with the stoptechs. I initially had a ton of squealing with the stock pads. Took them off and found the Lexus dealership coated the wrong side with grease(inbetween the shim and pad). You would think all brake lube is the same, but it isn't. We have Brembo brakes that should require Brembo grease, which is very expensive and most brake shops(including Lexus dealerships) won't have on hand. I used lobuxracer's recommendation for grease...he actually recommended two that were equivalent to Brembo grease, and I used the 3M version. Threw that on both front and back shims, not a peep for 5k miles at low speed braking. And both greases you can purchase from Amazon.

thanks for the detailed response Loren. summit racing has the stop tech slotted rotors for $116 each for the front, free shipping. I really don't want to skimp on brakes for the F, or any car really, but if they work just as well for the street as the Brembo's, then I'll consider them. I have some time before I need to replace brakes on all four corners.
