What luck for the header manufacturers..they get business from both ends: those that WANT extra power and those that NEED replacement headers. Not too often that this is the case.

I asked the dealer to look into the AC cooling fans for not running when AC is on and exhaust leaks. The almost good news is the fans operate normal (Questionable explanation at best). The bad news is, with 15% discounts, $3,600 for the right manifold replacement (Part costs roughly $1,800). Service Mgr. is trying to submit a goodwill to Lexus.

If I get a 50% goodwill, what are my options, considering future resale and smog check, here in Los Angeles?

After seeing those abomination of a factory manifold in person, I could never stomach paying to put another set of those pieces of trash on my car. Would rather get headers, and invest in a quality set of high flow cats.

Holy cow! I did not know this was an option! It's even got a CARB EO#. Thank you for the heads up! This is a good option for guys in Cali who don't want to pay the $1,500 per manifold price from the dealer or risk getting an aftermarket header.

I'm not following. Is the only reason in CA you can't run a header because it results in a cat delete? So one can run a header if they splice in a CARB cat? Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah aftermarket header deletes cat which is illegal for emissions. Carb cat needs to be there with carb # if u want to be legit. If u don't want to be legit u just need some money to pay the smog guy

Huh? I don't think there is splicing involved. The Magnaflow unit looks like an entire manifold replacement. See link below:

Wondering if the design is improved over the OEM one as far as flow and hopefully the Magnaflow manifold won't crack.
Also 95% of Lexus dealer will not touch an aftermarket part, so independent shop is the only option to install in most cases.

I think that's the only way to go. Which is great because you can get the install for much cheaper as well. Just need to do research on any indy shops that have done header installs on the ISF...I'm sure there's quite a few in SoCal.

I might have to go this route after I was quoted for $2,500 (after Lexus picks up the tab for $1,100). A great find, sir!

Just trying to help my Cali brothers out with a legit option. I spent 24 years in Sacramento. I know the pain well. I left 10 years ago and took my black rifles and smog legal Supra with me...

No. If it were that easy I might have considered staying. The entire assembly has to be functionally identical to the OEM part because the OEM part passed all the tests and the only way CARB will approve an aftermarket piece is if it is truly identical. I had an HKS SSQV in recirculate mode on my Supra and it would not pass smog. I put the broken OEM BOV in its place (the rubber inside had turned to glass and chipped off so it did not seal at all) and passed smog with flying colors. Stupid as stupid gets, but those are the rules. There is no way to get any aftermarket header with or without cats to legally pass smog in California.

I think it's awesome Magnaflow even bothered to develop and test these headers AND paid CARB the extortion money to get them approved. I have a whole new respect for them.

Lobux, thanks for the background on this. Yes, it seems that CARB is not based on sense but rather following "rules" that are flawed. If it passes the sniffer, why should they care... I just moved to Illinois from CA last year, so I guess I don't need to care about it anymore.
