exhaust cracked manifold for sure and nothing to do with the alternator installation
I remember hearing the starter is between the header and the motor and the headers must come off to replace it, I'm also a bit curious about his question, I can't smell exhaust fumes from mine yet but the noise has gotten a bit annoying.

i couldn't smell exhaust fumes on mine either but the noise got louder over the year i owned the car, i couldn't handle the noise anymore even with my joe z exhaust on so i took it in to get it fixed with my warranty.

I can only hear it at idle really with my exhaust, it will eventually get PPEs but not until I see a power loss or exhaust smell. Seems like some have put some serious miles on the cracked headers without any issues.
Breathing in exhaust fumes is a really bad thing and people can either pass out or die if driving long enough. This should be a recall and we should start a class action because it seems that most Lexus ISF cars have the same or similar cracks in the exhaust..
After reading this thread I feel like I have something similar going on..
I get a slight egg smell when I go wot, it slowly dissipates as I continue driving.
Looks like I have a reason to buy an aftermarket header now..
So this is the case happen to my car that I have posted the question. The exhaust gas smell very strong with CO which is extremely dangerous like poison gas in the cabin. I have to open the windows in order to breath ! it's that serious man. My car already passed the warranty at 99k miles now. I don't know if Lexus can cover this issue?
The 4AG engines in the Mk1 MR2s had exhaust manifold issues as well. This would not be a first for Toyota at all. It makes me wonder about the random ticking noise problem...
Same on the 3SGTE as well, my mr2 developed an exhaust manifold leak but its common on that motor too. Same spot every single time, so it has to be a Toyota thing on their performance based motors. Because I've had to do a new manifold gasket 2x on my mr2 since owning it for 8 years.
What is the approx. cost to repair the manifold with welding or cost to replace a new one ?
If I'm not mistaken a set of OEM headers from the dealership will run more than aftermarket headers. At that point you're just better off going aftermarket. As they're obviously made better and provide more power. Also, removing and installing headers is quite the task. Something you want to do only once, which is why most don't even bother repairing the stock units.
I have a 2012 and also had cracking issues on my stock manifolds. My solution? Replace them with PPE headers. One of my favorite mod to date.
My 2012 may have developed this issue as well.. After a cool overnight last week, I heard some ticking after starting that went away once the engine warmed up.. If so, it's good timing. I'm scheduled to have PPE headers installed in just over 2 weeks
