Can you see the detailed photos in post # 6 ??

The floating flange is not supposed to disconnect like that.

When you say you had a battle with extended warranty what did they complain about? Just curious if they tried to blame aftermarket exhaust or something.

Interesting. I'm pretty sure my stock header could be cracked around that area. Only way for me to really want to know is if I get some headers.

just got a call from the dealer today

they were working on my water pump and had the car overnight .. started it up and heard the loud ticking noise.

tech found a hairline crack in the manifold.

its being replaced under warranty.

Oh dayum! I had a feeling about this too. I should check mine tonight. Too bad the only way to find this is if you pull the manifolds out. In your case.. thankfully you got headers!

I was gettting headers anyways lol, but I didn't know the ticking was actually associated with the stock manifold until I read this thread.

You could get one of these. They have plenty of other uses as well (depending on how handy you are) and have come down in price from a few years ago. There's probably about 30 choices out there between the different mfg'ers.

Edit:

Ha ha, jk... I should keep my mouth shut until I actually try something.

I don't know how the rotten eggs smell, but its really strong exhaust smell like coming out on your muffler that kind of smell, when I'm flooring the gas pedal the smell is in front of your face

Thanks Joe, I wasn't aware the flange wasn't supposed to disconnect in that manner.

The tricking sound for me was prominent on every first start.. The sound and leak is identified by the carbon black soot. Hidden by the manifold heat shield..!!

After a battle with Extended Warranty, they finally covered the new parts & labor.

Thanks for posting this Joe Z. Now I see whats up. WOW. I guyess I have to be thankful that PPE is local. They are not to far from me. I guess if it breaks under warranty I would do oem headers. If off warranty ( seems more likely ) then its PPE time.

If you're tight with your SA, maybe you can work out header installation (you supply parts) with labor covered under warranty..

I'm guessing that's highly unlikely, but that would be a pretty sweet deal if it was possible...

Does this appear to be a time or mileage related issue? I have an 08 with only 33k and curious if I should already be looking for this

I think more mileage. Constant heating/cooling. You'll know when yours starts ticking loudly during cold starts.

Just get the PPE headers, you won't have any regrets!!

Great thread, ticking here too on cold starts, but very brief. 55K miles, 08.
