^^^Great link for the detectors!! Didn't realize there were some many out there now that outperform the best detectors on the market years ago.

Indeed. And they cost like it too.

Somehow I think I'll just keep the V1. Even without it, I have had no ROI in years.

What brings you to this conclusion? Curious because "Radar Roy" said that this was the all around best radar detector to filter out all the **** the driving aids cars are coming equipped with.
I cannot technically explain why they are better. They probably better amplifiers in there to boost sensitivity. The v1 is no slouch though

So here is my issues guys. I have had my V1 since summer of 2006 and it actually preformed well for me up until about 2 years ago. I started a new assignment 4 years ago and I commute about 300 miles a day ( some days) driving from Sacramento to the Bay Area. My V1 in my eyes isn't cutting it anymore. Why because the constant false alarms and alerts for X and K band... I have actually got 3 tickets since Jan of 2013.. 1 was traffic school one i had to pay and the one i just got I'm fighting it. All of these tickets i had the V1 on and it alerted me just as i hit a speed trap or i was hit with Laser ( not much i can do with that one).. So there has been a few new building and shopping centers that have been thrown up on my I-80 and 680 route but the amount of times my **** goes off for x and K is insane.. only a few times i have been able to catch Ka before it was too late. it just seems when I first got it. I would alert me MILES ahead now its min's sometimes seconds. So I am thinking of ditching the V1 and going with a new system. I was going to send it in for program update but its like 350 when a new system costs like 460 I think.
I'm not really sure what the issue is. I have changed a few settings within the V1 just changing the logic to "advance logic" ( where is it supposed to mute threats that are not supposed to be important to you) but I still feel its crap. I still get false alarms when I drive past the same shopping center daily..
Looking on the radarbusters website, I can say I learned alot from that 10 min video he has on his site. It looks like the Passport Max or Passport 360 or Beltronic may be a good alternative and it looks like I need a good Hiway detector.. IDK its alot to consider..

Jesus I guess I knew nothing of detectors until just a few mins ago. The Stinger VIP is clearly a beast but I don't have 3K to drop on a detector. So for my own education the 33.8 and 35.5 test are the GHz within the KA band range? For each detector you can select the operating frequency?

Check out the radenso pro se. GPS with lockouts, one of longest range highway detectors and you can turn off x and k bands for california.

For pure highway drivers, the best options are the Escort Redline, beltronics sti-r and radenso pro SE
I got myself the radenso pro non se. Can't wait to get it.
The escort 9500ix is an average radar detector now. So many many more radar detectors out there that will out perform it easily. Uniden lrd950 is one.

I've owned an Escort 8500 and then the 8500 X50, and then a 9500 on the trial period. I ditched the 9500 in favor on the Valentine 1 and never looked back.

on my I-80 and 680 route .
MPH uses 33.8
Stalker Radar runs 34.7
and Kustom Signals runs 35.5
35.5 is the hardest to detect, thus the beam is narrower with higher frequencies.
What parts of 680 do you drive? I've spend 21 years driving it, I can pretty much tell you all the hot spots there. Watch out for laser!!

I'm running a MAX2 with a Blendmount and love it. The Blendmount is made from aircraft aluminum and is extremely sturdy and won't move once you get the mounting screws locked in. I highly recommend them both.
That being said, this past week I got tagged with a laser by a LEO running a speed trap and that was a BIG surprise to me. Luckily, I was running with traffic and we were around the posted speed limit. Lasers haven't been common in Texas, much less my area, so I've got to get on a forum and get an update on that. Basically, if you're running a radar detector without a laser jammer, your radar detector operates as a high-priced ticket notification device.
Here's a pic of my set-up in my ES. I use a suction cup when using the MAX2 in my F:

That looks like the blend mount that i have for my V1!
I basically drive from Sacramento to San Jose, Mountain view So its the whole 80-680 span. Cops are the worse in the Fairfield Solano county area. Thats where i have gotten two of the 3 tickets i have gotten over the last 4 years.
So just to give you guys an update I went through my V1 and disabled a few of the setting ( I had no idea they were even out there, 10years I ran my V1 in stock format). I did my commute from Sac to the bay over the weekend for work and ill be glad to report I got no false alarms and the damn thing was quiet the whole weekend lol. It was a pleasure to know when it was going off it was going off due to cops being near, and not other bs on the road..
So far so good!!

I just bought the Escort Max 2 and love it. Picked up a cop in median shooting from over a mile away. Plenty of alert time for me. It also allows you to save spots that may send false alarms so you dont keep getting them.
I also had a cobra in the past for years so this was a huge upgrade.
Reason I didnt do valentine one is its huge, gives out a ton of false alarms and is outdated in my opinion and from reviews. To each their own.
I love the Max2. Plus you can log ini through phone and see the route your taking and if another person pointed out a trap, cop or another radar device.

Looks like you want one with a gps so you can lockout false alert along with turning off certain bands
Check out the radenso pro se. GPS with lockouts, one of longest range highway detectors and you can turn off x and k bands for california.

By the way, if your local PD/Sheriff does not use K-band, you may as well disable it. Drive around a bit and see what you pickup. Most of the municipalities switched off to new equipment, and most of that runs on Ka-band, which is good since no other devices (alarms, door openers operate on that)
Make sure to disable X-band, that's not used except in some parts of Oregon and NJ.
With K and X disabled, you'll get almost zero false alerts.
35.5 GHz (Ka) is where things get really nasty...........CHP runs 34.7 GHz (Stalker Radar allocated band).....

Man thats good to know. The K and X start to get very annoying.
