URGENT: Damaged brake line, question on repairing/replacing it
Hi all,
I have a 2008 IS-F. A friend of mine was helping install my new JoeZ exhaust this weekend and accidentally knicked the brake line that is situated next to the right (passenger) side catalytic converter. Naturally, it bled the brakes dry and I had to get it towed to the nearest Lexus dealership since there was no braking. They quoted $3700, saying that they need to drop the engine to reach and replace the whole line. Is this true? I find it hard to believe that the whole engine needs to be dropped for something fragile that can easily break/get damaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

you could call around and find a shop willing to install a double flared compression fitting. It is possible to repair it, just not worth the liability for most shops. I would try a hot rod, 4x4, or tuner shop as they do more custom work.

I could see it being $500, but not $3700 and engine drop. They are just trying to make it easy for themselves, or make it so expensive you won't choose them to do the work.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Just had the dealership do what they need. Dont want to risk modifying the brake lines for it to fail later.

Well.. that sucks. I would of at least got a second opinion at another Lexus dealership. Sounds like the head-hancho mechanic there doesn't know wtf he's doing. $3700 is just unbelievable for a measly ol brake line.
