Common issue across a range of Lexii. I just replaced mine today with one I bought on eBay as a used part. It looked perfect.

Man I live in AZ and have never seen anything like that. WTF !!!

lobuxracer Sep 27, 2015 08:51 PM

The seal says it is made of EPDM, a common roofing polymer. It seems it doesn't tolerate heat well. Mine never dripped, but it got sticky at first, then ripped and stuck all over the actuator on the switch itself.

It is very thin. I do not know why mine melted, but from looking in other forums, it's not unique to the 2IS even if the switch is. Apparently Lexus likes this material for this application and it fails routinely on other models too. I really wish I knew what caused this (if it isn't heat) because it's really annoying when it goes bad.

I guarantee you my car gets even hotter . Its in the direct AZ heat all day. The only thing I do is park so the back of the car is facing away from the sun to avoid damage to the rear speakers. I checked my switch tonight and its fine. Not even thin. I am wondering if Lexus changed something

We'll know in about 2 years. Mine started going bad about 6 months ago and it is an '08. Give yours another 2 years and we will see if it is doing the same thing. It's possible it is humidity too, so yours may never go bad. It seems the F owners with the interior panels melting live in high humidity areas (for the most part).
