A way to circumvent that would be to get a navigation override so you can enjoy DVDs while in motion or input addresses within your navigation without being locked out. I have the Beat Sonic Navigation Override, and it has been entirely trouble free and allows my passengers to enjoy movies on the go. But without it, you're pretty much left with needing to disengage the parking brake and making sure to keep the car in ACC, which is a tad trickier in a push-start vehicle, or else it will drain the battery

the override is awesome/. Had it on my LS460 and it was great to let the wife watch movies while we did long drives

I have the override for the F and it's awesome for the wife for long trips.

You just have to remove the Nav, and i'm pretty sure it's plug and play!
