Default Takeda Intake Owners

Hey guys. I picked up my IS-F 08' 3 weeks ago, and I already began modding. First thing I got is a Takeda intake. Got it installed the moment it came in and I don't feel accomplished

I was sold on its design and from a thread on here, where a member swore by it. So I picked up a black one.

Scratch included

Little upset with the welding.

This is part of the install that went bad.

Where is the Takeda plate??!!

Anyways I have a couple concerns:

The engine bay gets extremely hot. Wouldn't this metal tube just attract heat?

Also, how does this retain the 2-stage intake, with the giant hole on the side of the box?! Also, am I no longer suppose to hear the difference - after the 4k mark.

(Major Concern) The two hoses that goes into the intake are loose. They easily slide off and on. Is that suppose to happen or am I suppose to get a new clamp?

The welds are definitely not clean, should I be worried about metal debris getting into my manifold? Is this a bad batch? And where is my red takeda plate?

__

Someone make me feel better and tell me I shouldn't be worried.

For those that made it to the end, here is my first shot:

Those intakes have always seemed way over priced to me. Especially with all those small issues. Glad I went with the JoeZ for much cheaper.

1. IMO, the air is flowing though the intake tube, it really won't be affected by the heat.

2. The two stage intake remains in place because the forward portion of the stock intake box is retained.

3. I didn't really like the stock clamps and I replaced mine with hose clamps.

4. I would't worry about debris.

I was the first member of this forum to put the Takeda on, and I still luv it.

the quality issues are there but they seem pretty minor. I would get my own clamps if the hoses are lose, and yes heat soak is why oem intakes are NEVER metal. Yes heat soak can become an issue . Ideally it would be plastic or even silicone ( some after market ). Metallic intakes will heat soak. High intake temperatures will lead to ECU retarding the timing. Pretty minor but add heat soak to summer intake temps and you will drop a tiny bit of power, but the car will sound great . Its a trade.

Every dyno test including my own has shown a small loss in H.P. using the Takada intake vs. stock.
An Afe or stock air filter with a silicone tube gives the best results.
+4 WHP with Afe and iCode intake in my situation.

iCode is silicone but it is very expensive. You can get an HPS tube from Figs Engineering which is pretty much the same for much less.

I second the silicone tube and aFe dry filter. Best performing combo in my opinion.

For sound and looks the cone style short ram intakes would be your best bet at the expense of a few HP and heat soak.

silicone is the best alternative material . Not sure why the manufacturers go with metal . Must be price

Bought mine used for less than half price.

I know the previous owner had fitment issues because one of the tabs on the heatshield was re-welded in a different location to attain better fitment.

Anyway, decided to powdercoat my pipe blue (same blue as around the F logo on the engine cover), and also make the heatshield/box gloss black instead of crinkle.

I have it I love it. Dyno results may vary but unless it was done same car same day same temp etc. wouldnt worry about any loss. We are talking about such small gains.

My dyno testing was done with 3 intakes on the same day with the same cool down period for each and redundancy. But, I agree the changes are minimal. If you like the look and sound of the Takada then it may outweigh the small loss in power.
I just prefer performance parts that increase performance with aesthetics being the added bonus.
