Header Gas Smell
I did a search and couldn't get definitive answer. I'm pulling trigger on headers this week and I have Joe Z exhaust and will not be running cats. I was leaning on PPE headers, I heard my friend Bret's F with Sikky headers that Lexus Tampa installed and it sounded great with no annoying gas smell. I was wondering if there will be no annoying gas smell with PPE headers if installed correctly like they installed his Sikky headers or is gas smell just a hit or miss thing with headers.

if you delete all four cats you will get the odor.

Bret will probably chime in here but there was def no smell of gas with his header/Joe Z set up at idle and several loud revs. Took a brief but very hard accelerating ride with him and still no smell from his Sikkys. I know he had just had them installed and maybe the gas smell comes later?

I echo what has been said. Headers with no Cats = Gas Smell. Headers with HiFlow Cats = No Gas Smell.
But, I have a friend with PPE Headers and the JoeZ and no Cats, and he has No Gas Smell.
And, I ran without Cats (for a few hours) (PPEs new system) and had No Gas Smell. But, my PPE system (Headers and Exhaust) has Hi-Flow Cats and, of course, No Gas Smell.

When you guys are talking gas smell, are you talking in the car or at the tailpipes? When I had an exhaust leak, I had gas smell in the car. Now that everything is nice and tight again, there is no smell in the car but the tailpipe definitely has gas smell. I'm fully catless.

ToothDoc hit on what I was getting at. I don't care if there is a slight gas smell at the exhaust tips but my fear is what I have experienced in drive thru lines behind vettes and mustangs where I smell horrid gas fumes coming thru my air vents with windows up when they are in front of me. Maybe they are running something more than headers

^^^^You're drawing in gas fumes from their tailpipes. They don't smell it in their cars, but you do. This is just another reason I avoid ALL Drive-Thrus. I just hate 'em!!!! I can pickup my own prescriptions, make my own bank deposits, and go to into a fast food place. Drives-Thrus are not for me

PPE/JoeZ w/no cats here, and I haven't really noticed any smell while driving. I actually bought cats from PPE at the same time I bought the exhaust thinking I'd definitely want them if I didn't want a strong exhaust odor, but that doesn't seem to be the case, so they are still sitting in the box.
I think some may have had exhaust leaks contributing to the odor, and others may simply be more sensitive to the smell.
Definitely give it a shot without cats first, unless you are looking to be a little more than not at all environmentally responsible by actually having cats.
Also, if you do up wanting to have them added, mine are BNIB (from PPE with the canted O2 bungs and installer instructions). I'm still on the fence on installing them since I'm not sure about any of the shops near me cutting up the beautiful JoeZ (exhaust).

Running PPE headers and Joe Z exhaust first with hi flow cats very little exhaust gas smell, once I removed hi flow cat much stronger smell. My experience driving in other full cat deleted F's, that they have very degrees of exhaust gas smell some stronger than other. The consensus seem to be most F have some sort of gas smell with lucky few you exhibiting none, lucky bastards lol.

In that case, he's running a little leaner and probably making a little more horsepower! Lucky SOB. Hahaha But also, it depends if the car is still warming up or in full operating temperature. There obviously will be more gas fumes when the engine is cold and running a little richer.
