Question Does the ISF Really take 10 Liters of oil?

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to figure something out.

My car has done around 16k Km and the last service I did was at 10k km at the dealership where they supposedly changed the engine oil and filter.

Yesterday while parked waiting to get coffee I got the low engine light which was a surprise, so I drove home and let the car cool down and checked my engine level and it was at the min level

Now I haven't checked if I have any leaks from looking at the bottom of the engine. I do hammer the car every day but don't track it so I was surprised that in only 6km the engine oil has gone from full to low.

From reading around several threads people are saying that the ISF takes 10 liters of Oil, is this true?

I just want to clarify because at my 10k service the dealers only charged me $50 for the oil and filter which looking back now is a surprise since that wouldn't even cover 3 liters of oil.

So any ideas? or can someone confirm that the ISF takes 10 full liters of oil?

Yes it does, and from the sound of your bill, your mechanic may not have used synthetic oil. The cost of oil and a filter from PepBoys is around $60, and that's not even for Mobil One.
If you're unsure what they used, drain that crap out of there fast. Or, they added the same amount of oil as a regular car, which would be really bad for you. F's don't burn oil, so I don't know how else yours would have got so low.

i always trust but verify any service I have done, because in the end it costs me not them and I must ensure the job was done correctly. Thus, after every oil change I check my dipstick once warmed up to verify proper amount was filled.

Thanks for the advice,

I thought you're supposed to check your engine oil when the car has cooled down to get the correct level to show?

That's what I did after my 10k service and it was at the top.

Now I'm thinking they just put some crap oil or else will the dip stick show full oil level with filling the engine up with lets say only 5 liters?

doesnt have to be cooled down, but wait a few minutes after turning off the engine to let all the oil drip down. You dont have to warm up the car to check the oil either. What you could do is buy two 5qt jugs of mobil 1 from walmart. They have by far the best price on it, here its $25 for the jug. Bring it to the oil change place of your choice or better yet DIY.

Dealers charged me $60 for an oil chance on my IS350 which takes close to 7qt. Always verify your oil changes after service, or better yet DIY

10 liters equals 10.57 quarts. Mine takes 10 full quarts. Ten liters is close, but still a half a quart shy.

By the book it's less than 10 liters, but it is surely more than 9. There are lots of reasons you could be "burning" oil excessively and not notice it, but if they put any oil meeting Lexus minimum requirements in the engine, you should not be seeing this unless there is a problem.

When it comes to checking the oil, the most important thing is to be consistent about how you do it. Lexus says to run the car, shut it off, wait 5 minutes and check. I don't do it this way. I just check it cold. Always. If it's full cold, it will be acceptable when warm according to what I have seen doing it both ways, so I just do what is easiest and still works.

They didn't put in the "regular" car amount; regular being the 6.7 quarts required in the is250/350.

I'm pretty positive they didn't because if you were 3 full quarts under, your dipstick would not be at the minimum mark and your car would have given you so many warning lights earlier. I think i read that your car only has to be 1.5-2 quarts under for the light to show up.

walmart sells mobil 1 for $25 for the 5 qt jugs. oem oil filter is like $10 at the dealer or you can buy a box of 10 from sewell for $35 which comes down to $3.50 a filter. would only cost your about $55 if your diy. if your oil change was done at the dealer more then likely they used bulk oil.

This is one reason I went to the dealer for my first oil change. The drain tub I have doesn't hold that much and I didn't want to make a mess.

Car takes 9.8 quartz with the filter.

I buy my 2, 5 gallon jugs of Castrol 5W-30 synthetic at WalMart.
