I have a 2008 that I bought with 12,000 miles on it 2 months ago and I have about 12,800 miles on it now and I have developed a brake squeal at low speeds. I had my buddy take off all the tires and calipers and check out the brake pads he said they all looked really good and still had a lot of life on them, the pads are a light blue color I don't know if these are the stock pads or not. Does anyone know what might be causing this bad squeal at low speeds?

It's a known issue that our brakes squeal at low speeds. If you're still under warranty you can go to the dealership and request that they perform the LSB to replace the shims and brake pads to help with the sound but in some cases it doesn't help. Then you would be better off buying Project Mu pads or any other low-noise pads.

If your pads are blue, then they are not OEM...... Do they dust less??

I don't really know the difference between the oem dust and these since I have only had the car for 2 months, but the fronts seem to get a good amount of brake dust on the inside of the rims but im really not sure how it is compared to oem.

I think the OEM pads/rotors on this car just squeal by nature and you have to live with it. There is another F in my apartment block that also squeaks constantly when he is parking.

On a side note, I installed Project Mu's and it has SO much less dust. Except they are starting to squeal quite a bit now at low speeds and cold starts. Given that I have only driven like 200km's on the pads, do I need to drive and wear them in a bit more for the squealing to quieten down?

take your pads out, clean them up with brake cleaner, put new anti squeal grease on it

i had to buy that special brembo grease from the lexus dealer to get rid of my squeal. those cheap over the counter ani squeal doesn't seem to work on these brakes. but that little tube was money well spend .

Hi CKaler - It's likely you are not on OEM Pads. If you can live with it or use the advise of another member here about cleaning the backing plate off and re greasing it, try to use them up before switching - then think about switching to NS400 (Project Mu) which is considerably less on cost than OEM and dusts less as well.

With these cars I think you either have to deal with squeaking, or dust, or both.

The OEM pads are ridiculous though so if/when you do swap out your blues, don't go OEM. The dust they put off is comical...and that leads to squeaks.

Can you advise what Project Mu pads you are on? Are you using the pad with a brake shim?

Hi,

I put in NS400's, I believe my mechanic re-used the OEM shims, cleaned them and then smeared on some anti squeal grease.

I find now on cold starts it squeals, until I give it a good hard brake or 2. Sometimes low speeds in carparks I notice it squeals as well. However the 90% reduction in dust is well worth it!!!
