Default Steering ECU upgrade to 2011+ model

Hello everyone,

As most of us know, the steering has been improved on 2011+ model ISFs.
Not saying that I hate my 2010 steering feel, as some might enjoy the heavy feel,
the 2011+ model years are often described lighter, more precise, Porsche like.

This thread is not to voice your likes and dislikes of any given model year's steering,
but an inquiry to see if anyone completed the upgrade on their early model year.

I read lots of threads about some of you considering an upgrade of the steering ECU
on an early ISF (2008-2010) to the 2011 specs. Is anyone out there have done it,
and post some details. Thank you in advance!

I found the part on the Sewell site....$443.81 (after CL discount)

It's an interesting thought. I would consider it. Having coil overs and the 2011 LSD in my car there isn't much difference between my moded one and a new one.... Gauge cluster, headlights and apparently that computer

I contacted Sewell Lexus, asking following......

Got this answer....
Rossi – it is only through the forums are we confident the steering latest steering ECU is applicable to previous models years.* As we continue selling them to IS owners, we’ll continue stating it is compatible.
*
The installation is just three bolts and a plug-in wire to complete the installation.

Anyone to confirm the "plug and Play" install?

I did a quick search and found your answer. Apparently there is a calibration step required after the physical installation. I know you don't care about personal opinion in your thread but I gotta say, my 2011's steering feel is... niiiice.

How much you guys think, the calibration would cost at the stealership?

Is Tech-stream only for Lexus vehicle? is it a common device, would any shop have it?
Please advice?

Tech-stream is particular to toyotas
I really have no idea but I'd bet they book 1/2 hour to do it so around $75.

Since this is a rare mod, i am more concerned whether the average lexus dealer knows how to calibrate it correctly. Sewell sells it, but makes no mention of calibration. either it is not needed, or they have no clue.

lobuxracer had recommended calibrating the unit, shortly after install. It makes sense, so I'd trust his input on it. The post is here.

Jeff Lange briefly describes the procedure, here.

Great research Shinobi-X. Very helpful.

Still hoping to hear from someone whom completed the conversion on the ISF.
I seems that many owners of 2nd gen is250/350 have done this.

I don't know if I'd say many, but definitely a few who are willing to spend the money. I want to do this, but it's not as high on my priority list as some other more fundamental chassis changes to improve mechanical grip.

I agree, I see many are trying to upgrade to 2011+ model, swapping the Headlights, and upgrading the LSD, installing the coilovers. No one yet to post a successful steering ECU upgrade.
Which is surprising to me, almost everyone whom test drove the newer model, mentions the improved steering.......

Fashion seems to trump functionality. Look at the thread on "aggressive fitment" and you'll see what mean.

The reason for me not doing this mod is because i have all the up grades for it , after market suspension , lighter wheels and wider tires, a bit lower , rear fsport sway bar, 2010+LSD and flat bottom steering wheel which is a bit thicker and fit yours thumbs perfectly at 9-3 position. With all that additions my car is handling much better than any 2011 +F models, i drove my friend 2012 F and he drove my . He couldnt believe it that my car was much better than his U better believe it , u can ask any Socal members that test drove my F . If your steering wheel is too heavy for you i'll suggest you get some dumb bells and start pumping some irons lolz . Now that is the 1st important mod

Felixt got the part already, installing within next couple of weeks, looking forward hearing from him.
