Default GoPro Camera Mounting

Hey all,

I just picked up a new GoPro Hero3 for my trip to the Dragon tomorrow, and was wondering what are the best mounting points for the camera on the ISF? If anyone that has some experience with these cameras could chime in, that would be much appreciated. I'll be sure to post or link the pictures and vidoes up here when I get back.

it depends on what you want to have in view...I find the roof to be good point of view for front or back and also the side under the mirrors. u can also place it in the cabin.

Thanks. I did some cabin recording earlier, it works out nice, but you don't get a great sense of the sound, and the sun glare can be bad at times. I'll have to try the roof and under mirror locations.

I put a mount on the lower passenger side brake duct for a ground viewpoint - you can also see the remote microphone wire I run to the back bumper

I also like the driver side back door window and the center of the roof.

If you have never used the camera, you seriously need to do some dry runs and figure out what will work for you. I preferred the center of the roof in front of the sunroof. You can adjust your lens to capture several wide angle shots

..also I highly recommend running a remote microphone, as you will not get the right exhaust sound...just wind noise.

These 3 camera video's should give you an idea of what your trying to achieve.

Where did you place your remote mic? Audio seemed clean. I have a windscreen directly on one of my cases and helps reduce wind noise. http://www.micover.com

As far as placement, that all depends on what you're going after. I'd recommend to try different places to see where you like it.

I like digger's placement in the brake duct and will probably try that sometime

BTW, have fun on the Dragon and can't wait to see some footage

I like the angle you get from the rear window facing forward looking over the roof. it give a bit more of a 3rd person view and a better sense of where the car is in relation to others and the track.

how did u wire the mic all the way to the back of the bumper? want to know as I was afraid of it getting tangled up or caught in something.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Digger, thanks for the various video angle shots too. I got two 32gb cards and two extra batteries, I hope to get a ton of great footage.

I've been mounting it next to the license plate lately when I'm driving with a group of people. I like the footage of the cars right on your bumper. I will post some of my youtube vids with it later.

I usually mount mine in the middle of my helmet. So the footage is basically identical to what the driver sees. I have one on the front windshield as well. The hero3 doesn't come with an external microphone jack, you have to buy some stupid USB-B to mic cable......

wow this is turning into a pretty informative thread!

Thank goodness mine is a Hero 2 - I had to drill a hole in the side for the mic jack and it plug and plays

My mic came with a 25' cord so I just run it through the passenger side door, sunroof or what ever into the trunk and then put foam around the mic end and duct tape to the rear bumper. I placed it exactly in between both mufflers below the license plate just with duct tape. I hit speeds of 230km's, so I was happy with how it turned out. I just wish I had the blue tooth remote backpack to turn it on and off like the 3 has. I get more use out of the LCD back pack truthfully.

Awesome shot!

Quarius, can I pick up that windscreen at Sammys, or did you make that one yourself?
