Default Warranty Violations

I just purchased a 2012 IS-F. Looking to do an exhaust, coil-over, and header upgrade. What are some ways to avoid violating the factory warranty? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

R u sure about headers? I would think that would void, well at least the set that relocates dip stick.

Headers or any cat back exhaust system will in fact void the factory emissions warranty because your are messing with (removing) either the secondary cats (with an exhaust system) or the primary cats (with headers) or both sets of stock cats with headers and cat back exhaust.

This may or may not be of concern to you. It was not to me. I am running headers and a modified cat back exhaust that removed both sets of factory cats. I am, however, running Magnaflow Hi-Flow cats. So, as far as emissions go, I am on my own.

As far as any other warranty is concerned, Lexus would have to prove that an added or modified component caused a failure that may impact a mechanical warranty. That condition is very unlikely, IMHO.

Oh, the new design PPE headers no longer require the relocation of the dip stick

basically no mod will void the ENTIRE warranty but say you install coils incorrectly and some part of the suspension fails they will probably not cover it because of the coils but if you motor blows up the coils are totally unrelated so it will be covered. As long as the headers/exhaust are install correctly you should have no warranty issues. They will have to be able to directly prove that the mod caused the problem.

^^^ Sums it up nicely.

I've never personally had a dealer deny warranty coverage due to any mods I've had (on any car) but I have read posts about people who have. A relevant one was a dealer who claimed the performance mods caused additional strain on the tranny so they wouldn't cover it. I think that's a really rare case but it could and does happen.

But if something like your moonroof breaks, you won't have any issues with warranty coverage due to headers/exhaust.

There is always a risk. Much of this hinges upon the dealership and their interpretation of the warranty.

I would say any mod could be the cause of another issue. As used above a moonroof shatters and you have coilovers... case closed. Your new harsh riding race suspension (Dealer POV) caused additional stress on the moonroof.

Headers increase power, rearend goes out.. Guess what? Dont mod it unless you can afford to fix it

One last point: This is a factory warranty, for a factory car that has many hours of R&D and stress tests to find the perfect combinations of parts. If you add a Cold air intake and the motor blows and all the other stock vehicles run flawlessly, you lose your voice in singing out for manufacturer help when you change the song.

Happy Modding!

I asked this question to thee guy who I bought my warranty from. Q: would putting headers on the vehicle void the warranty? His response: why would you put headers on a Lexus?

Hehehe

How about on a lease? When you go in for scheduled maintanence should you remove your mods? What will happen if you don't.

Thanks everyone for your input on my questions about the warranty. I am deploying for 9 months so I have some time to give it all some thought before I do anything. Will update when I decide what I am going to do. And will post pics once complete. Thanks again everyone!
