The axle-back doesn't remove cats so it will absolutely pass CA emissions.

I'm still not sure if cat-backs pass in CA (you don't have to smog a car for 6 years so even the 08's here having had to smog yet) but with the headers still having cats I think it will.

A cat back system will pass an emissions check just fine, because removal of the secondary cats will not upset any of the cars electronics. There is no electrical emissions check (o2 bung) after the secondary cats. However, if there is a visual inspection and the inspector knows what he/she is doing, you will fail the visual inspection. Remember it is against Federal and CARB law to tamper with or replace the working catalytic converters on a motor vehicle. And yes, I know, I am breaking the law, and so are a lot of other members of this forum.

I'm assuming you were hooked up, or the tech didn't know it's aftermarket since the isf parts are hidden unlike Acura or Honda?

I was told by another member that he passed the smog with JoeZ exhaust in CA.

He stated that Lexus is in general a low emission car and had no problems passing the sniffer even without the secondary cat. I guess Borla cat back should be the same thing.

Anyone know how to reduce this droning? I agreed at 2000 rpm, the drone is annoying. I have read from another there is a exhaust tip that borla could provide for free to reduce the droning.

I tried drowing the droning with 2012 IS-F ML audio system, unfortunately it sux, does not play loud enough and the good low bass is lacking.

The Borla axle-back cannot be "fixed" of this droning. Having some conversations with a few exhaust owners, it seems like the mid-pipe has more of an impact on overall sound. So you can't remedy the Borla axle-back of it's sound and drone. You either have to go cat-back, or....go custom crazy with what you have.

The key to removing drone is in the mufflers. If you can't live with the drone, go back to the stock mufflers.

After all the feedback, I think the cat-back is the way to go.
Any feedback on Borla cat-back? ( No JoeZ suggestions please)

^^^^Rossi, there's lots of feedback on the Borla Cat-Back system on this forum. Do a search and you'll find 'em. Generally most folks who have it like it.

I just came from a buddies shop that fabs exhaust system for race cars and builds unreal motors as well. His place is called welding works. He all kinds kick butt cars at his shop today. He was going to build a custom exhaust but as he examined the F on his lift he was stating the stock exhaust is really good, very free flowing ect.. He said if I want a system build to improve sound just changing the mufflers is the most practical way to go. Even the the Y point you have mentioned here is well desighned.

^^^^I respectfully disagree. Though I never baselined my F with the stock exhaust, most stock Fs run about 335 to 340 RWHP. My F, with only a modified dual system utilizing non-modified stock mufflers, no secondary cats and with the factory manifolds put out 355 RWHP on a DynoJet. That was the baseline dyno run for me before my PPE headers, hi-flow cats and modified stock mufflers. I can't understand how that crush at the rear Y can be described as well designed.

From under the car you can't see the crushed y-pipe as well so it may have been an oversight. But if you see it from above it will make you shake your head in disbelief.

Catback or axleback ...... No CEL if installed properly.
