Default aftermarket amp/sub - clean signal?

For those of you doing an aftermarket sub, or even non stock speakers how are you getting a clean signal out of the ML headunit?

the stock ML system is woefully incompetent in my opinion and needs some help, I figured I'd start with a small sub, and remove the stock (I think blown) ML sub, to see how it goes from there.

I use an Alpine MRP-M500 mono d-class amp, it has speaker level inputs on it so no need for an extra attachment. You just get the wires from the sub, wire it up...GTG. I run this amp with a 10" Alpine Type-S sub...honestly, i got the amp turned all the way down...it's MORE than enough bass.

I guess my concern with doing it that way is that you're getting an amped and "tuned" signal rather than having full control over the cross over level and a non equalized signal.

hmmm.. I suppose I could start by trying it that way.... I wonder what the output range is from the ML amp for the sub.

I remember Sarge posted something up on his build thread about hooking up somewhere to get a clean full range signal... not sure where

are you guys getting something where the bass is offbeat with the music? It sounds like the bass comes half a second late or something haha.

Blown ML sub is pretty typical. Some people disconnect it when adding an aftermarket sub.
I had mine replaced under warranty and turned the low setting on my stock sub down a bit and have a separate control **** for my JL sub/amp combo.

IMHO the best way to get a full signal for your sub is to take the signal from the two front mid-range speakers and add it to the signal for the sub with a LOC.

Here is a write up someone did a while back. If you go this route and have questions PM me.

that's been my experience, every other ML lexus I've had, 2008 gx470, 2009 LX570, 2006 LX470, 2001 GS430, and 2004 LS430 all had far far superior sounding systems, in fact my 2009 land cruiser has a better sounding system - I'm a little shocked honestly.

Maybe because it has to be lightweight or something...

I'm in the process of putting together a system myself as well. Here are a few ISF builds to review -

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...l?ref=esp-link

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...cs-galore.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-pictures.html

From my research you can add a sub pretty easily by adding a LOC - you do NOT want to tap the stock sub wire as its a filtered and shaped signal coming from the ML amp designed for the stock 8" sub. You want to tap the front door midbass as it is a full range signal and will be quite a bit better sounding - much better suited for a 10"+ sub. If you are sticking with an aftermarket amp and an 8" sub you could probably use the stock sub wire as your source and not notice a difference due to the frequency output inherent to most 8" subs.

If you are going to run a full system replacement amp and all speakers check out the build threads I linked to over at DIYMA - specifically this one --> http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...cs-galore.html

Bing is a fantastic installer, I'd follow his install :-) He details which wires to tap and how to properly setup the DSP necessary to tie into the ML system.

Good Luck :-) Be sure to do an install thread either here or at DIYMA (and let us know)
