Default Swift Spring pics & thickness vs. stock

Posting these pics just for info purposes for anyone searching for these springs.

I found it interesting how much thicker the metal was for the stock springs vs. the Swift springs.

the Car IMO handles better with the stock springs on it. The look is better with the Swift springs but not the performance. Just in case anyone wanted to know the thoughts on it.

I love the red color though - not that anyone sees that, but looked good when I was putting them in.

how is the performance not better? would have thought after market springs would be stiffer than stock thus improving handling

Interesting thread. I was wonderirng the samething on the performance, shouldnt lowering the center gravity of the car make it handle better? I would to get these springs for the drop and the looks, but really not willing to sacrifice the ride quality. Please advise, thanks bro!

a lot of guys (at least on the GS) forums do this swap with actual coilovers and notice a huge difference

IMHO, swift swings (he didn't specify what spring rate) may be stiffer and feel like it handles off).

Usually, aftermarket springs should make the car handle better. Then again, its on stock struts though.

^^^ I agree, should be stiffer and handling better despite not changing struts

My experience with swift springs is the opposite. It improved the handling meaning stiffer thru the bends but more compliant over bumps. These springs accomplished my goal of giving the F , a modest drop while having a moderate improvement in the ride. The handling is just a plus and I welcome it!

the only way I would see someone saying the ride is worse is if they put the springs on a 2011 or 2012 ISF that had the better suspension. On previous years, the car felt like a bumpy horse carriage. I know cause I just installed these springs on my '09

those look like progressive springs... Meaning they are soft over bumps but become stiff after the first part of the spring making it nice for day to day driving.. they don't look like they would lower much

I personally wouldn't want stiffer spings in my IS.. lol **** is rock hard already..

Dang thats what I was affraid of and didnt want to scrafice the ride quality just to lower the car and give it a better stance...

They are dual rate springs not progressive, and the diameter of the rod they used is a lot smaller than the OEM spring which makes it softer if all things are equal, but they're not because it's a dual rate spring. The Swift spring is also a LOT longer in terms of the number of coils (it's really important to think of a spring as a torsion bar coiled up for convenient packaging) which also means it will be softer if all things are equal, but again, they're not equal because of the dual rate wind.

The only way to know for sure what's going on is to put the springs on a spring tester and see how they respond, or ask Swift for the rates.

Just having stiffer springs doesn't guarantee better handling. They have to be paired with the proper shocks and suspension geometry to work in unison.

This is why they call it chassis tuning...just bolting on parts is very foolish. Everything has to work together or its a disaster no matter who made the components.
