Default Lexus Buyback, stay away from it?

Hi guys! I have a question and Im looking for opinions. This is my first post so here I go!

Im looking to buy an IS-F this week. I found a 2011 with low miles and excellent condition. But the dealership warned me about that this car was a buyback from Lexus. It is stated on the carfax report also. I called Lexus and told me about the program. They didnt have any bad report on the car VIN since February. And explain me that the only reasons the buyback is cause for cutomer satisfaction or the car have some issue that couldnt get fixed at the time.

The car is under Lexus waranty till 2015 and drivetrain till 2017.

Should I stay away from it?

Any opinion will be extremely appreciated

The only buy backs I've heard of is from members here having an issue with a metallic tapping noise coming from the engine. It sort of sounds like rattling a paint can, but it doesn’t necessarily have a specific pattern, although distinctive. My sound opinion is based off of several videos I have seen/heard from Salli and Ucrazy.
Some have reported the sound with no power loss, others have noticed power loss.
Word is either valve or piston related.
I would at least drive it at full temp and compare to another. Maybe take some video on the driver’s side fender with the hood up idling.

Who knows they might have fixed it and put it back for sale.

Thanks Vervish.

Dv8, so Salli and Ucrazy got that noise fixed or they got theirs buyback? I read about that noise around but never find out if it was repaired or not.

Also keep in mind your resale value - anything that comes up on the carfax is going to probably lower the resale price when it is time to sell. But with that in mind - if you can get a smoking deal now and the car seems to run strong - it might be worth the risk.

Good luck.

I wouldn't buy it. Simply based on resale you're taking a big risk. How heavily has the car been discounted?

Dam! I had a bad feeling!
Well I got them to come down to 52K, before even thought that it could be a lemon.
Ill guess Ima pass.
The resale value will always take a hit because what it says on the carfax

Yah man, smart choice on passing. You'll find something better, where you'll have much more peace of mind with your purchase.

My 2008 was fixed and car was sold privately to a CL member and he is enjoying her in good health
Recently sold my 2011 IS F to a local Dealer, My 2011 F had the noise but very inconsistent...didn't really bother me much due to warranty.

If i were you, i would pass on it based on the fact that CarFax is showing Buy Back...For $52k you can definitely find one with clean carfax with low miles.

If you could of gotten more information on why it came back then it would of helped a lot more. At my dealership, we had a buy back from a dash rattle. Tried different things several times and it didn't work.

Do you know why it was a buy back?

I called Lexus and they didn't have nothing on why the car was bought back. Nothing on the VIN since February.
