Default 2012 Mustang is here!

Says the post card type mail I received from Ford. Don't know how they got my name and address. Anyway, I pretty much know the stats of the 5.0 GT and it is impressive especially for the price, but it is not an IS F. Now I started poking around to see what was new on the Ford and came across a You Tube video entitled "2011 Mustang 5.0 GT vs IS F." So I opened it and watched this supposed stock GT totally destroy the supposed IS F (where the camera man was). I mean, it left the F so far behind that I doubt that the car the camera man was in is in fact an IS F. Plus the sound from the supposed IS F wasn't there either. Has anyone else seen this video? I know it's a little old but still, I have a hard time accepting that a 5.0 Mustang will kill an IS F from a roll like this. A GT-R ok but not this Ford. Anyway, just wanted to know what my fellow IS F owners think.

I drove the Ford FR500S at Miller motorsport speedway for a 3 day racing school.

ford 5.0L factory track tuned

long tube headers, full exhaust, coil overs, tune, brembo fronts (floating disc), 13 pt cage, race buckets, digital drivers display, gutted, forged rims, R spec tires, the works.....

I would take our ISF on that track any day of the week over those things, especially if you were to lighten her up

Currently own an 08 ISF and 2012 Mustang GT auto trans, both stock.

From a standstill to about 70-80mph, the GT is faster because it puts down the power better and the torque comes in at a much lower rpm range. The GT is auto, so I just stomp and go. The 7000 rpm redline in the GT helps as well, shifting into 3rd after 70mph, whereas the ISF needs to shift into 3rd in the 60mph range. The most enjoyable difference of the 5L V8 in the Mustang is how the low end torque comes in around 1500rpm, the ISF needs to be revved higher for sure.

From a 70-80mph roll, it's even until about 115-125mph, where the ISF begins to take over. I think the taller top end gearing is where the ISF is meant to perform. Top speed in the GT isn't as high as the ISF, I think it maxxes out around 145mph (electronically limited or gear limited, I wasn't sure, had to pay attention to the road.)

A manual (or even auto) Mustang GT with the 5L V8 with a few mods (intake+exhaust only) will easily best a stock ISF. Even with just a tune on the GT, the ISF will have no chance from a standstill or roll.

The video on YouTube, the exhaust on the Mustang doesn't sound stock, so who knows what mods it has. The GT didn't really pull away hard, but it's definitely walking away briskly.

Haven't seen an ISF with exhaust + intake + headers perform, so don't know how that will fare up against a Mustang GT with exhaust + intake + headers.

So stock v stock, GT is faster overall unless you're referring to well into triple digits.

Ive raced a few and the ISF is faster, but not by much. The new 5.0 is a beast.

I've raced a Mustang 5.0 GT before (not the new one, my guess is it was a 2008 as well), and i knew it had an exhaust, but not sure what other mods....it was fast...but every shift i pulled forward a bit.

TWO compeletely different CLASS of cars...

I owned a 5.0 (4.9L) Mustang for 5 years.. In my younger years...

But I grew up and found an appealing taste for Lexus back in July of 2000, when I picked up the HOT NEW IS300.

Eventually, I found my way back into the proper 5.0 Lexus IS-F .. after owning an IS350 for a short while..

I love the Mustangs, but two doors don't work for the family road trips..

Honestly, modern Fords are pretty darn well screwed together. I've had a number of late model Ford 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks that have held up well. I just traded off my wife's Expedition and we never had any issues with it except a rear airbag problem that came up right after we bought it. Heck, I had a 2011 GT500 and a 2012 Boss 302 for a short time and neither of them had so much as a rattle.

I was racing a 2011 5.0 when I did my 11 second run. I believe he was stock, but you never know. The trap speed between us was significant. I have to wonder how many mods it would take the GT to be equal considering the F only has 2 power mods.

Nice cars...Ford is doing a great job with its Coyote 5.0 Motor! I'm more partial to GM though :P

Why did they make that awesome motor and then throw a Chinese made garbage transmission behind it?

I do understand what another poster said about down low torque..its funny how you have to get this car (IS-F) high in the rev band to get peak torque
