Great ending to the story, however the honest truth is that the thief will probably get a slap on the wrist and Geico will never see any money as these a$$holes never pay back restitution.

Well at least it's not like the Canadian system where the thieves are given an apology by the judge for all the inconvenience caused to them then a $1500 welfare check to take home. And this is AFTER a conviction.

Probably. The prosecutor's office has more than enough information for a charge of grand theft at this point. A conviction is certain. The thief will probably cut a deal and get probation depending on age and priors.

Geico may try to get a judgment depending on how much they are out of pocket versus cost. But, and this is key, its just easier and fiscally better for them to increase rates. That's why thefts like this hurt everyone.

The OP should be more focused on working on getting a garage space.

Just curious, when you say the insurance is purchasing the orignal wheels back, are you referring to the one whcih were stolen from the car?; or buying a new orignal set from Jaapn?

I believe you mentioned earlier that they have to order a new set from Japan; since it's most likely coming in a cargo ship of new cars, this would take at least a month or so from when the cargo ship left port before it would arrive.

wow, cool story :-) I got here from the other IS forum about stolen wheel caps.

I had my old Honda Civic (probably worth $4000) stolen last year. The police caught the guy (a druggie) 2 days later with almost no damage. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison because of prior offenses (he was arrested twice before on stealing cars but didn't get a conviction or something).

After that, I installed Viper 5902 alarm on my IS350. It wasn't too difficult. If you got the cash, then professionally installing it is a good idea ... I didn't feel like paying someone $1000 to install it. The most difficult part was getting the vents off since I had never done it before, it took me hours; now I can get them off in 10 minutes. I used info posted here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ory-alarm.html and posted some questions on the12volt.com forums. If you just want the alarm, you really only need to connect 3 wires from the car to the alarm (a ground, +12v, and ignition/accessories wire). You do need to read a bit on the things come with the alarm system telling you which wires do what.

Glad it all worked out in the end but did anyone notice the phone number on the Craigslist ad? It's a New York number not Pennsylvania.

Wow, I'm glad they caught the guy that stole your wheels, and the TPS's give him up! That's cool, good luck with the getting it all sorted out from here.
