Default Joe Z carbon fiber exhaust tips done??

So I really wanted to get some of the carbon exhaust tips from Joe Z for my Starfire Pearl and I called Carson Toyota today and they said they were finished and out of production. Am I missing something? Anybody know any particular reason why production might have halted?

I asked Joe about the exhaust tips via PM a week or so ago and he told me the below....

We have had some issues with members racing with the tips and long term high heat conditions..

So we have currently stopped sales to work on the issue with our manufacture.

Not too sure when or if we will begin sales again.

Regards,

I agree, that sucks - I too was just about ready to order a set!

Totally off-topic: nice wheels in you avatar pic, I have the same ones. Forgiato Maglias, right?

Once the problem is addressed, I'm sure the product will be released again and it will tougher and more heat resistant.

You are correct my good man!! . They are really nice rims.

I actually ordered a set of the cf tips a few months ago, they are really nice as long as you don't track with them. I live in FL and the heat is brutal, nonetheless my tips still look fresh.

I can imagine them melting. I burned my hand on the trunk floor just trying to put my spare back in right after a 20 min session. It hurt like hell and I could not believe it heated it up to that point!. I am sure it would toast

You cant just mount carbon/epoxy tip covers to metal... you need a phenolic type insulating layer in between, or they will melt and/or crack. The right way to make them is to oversize them a bit, then insert them over an insulating sleeve.

Thanks Rafi... Really appreciate the insight..

We made a couple hundred.. Most of the street driven ones aren't having or didn't have any problems even after a couple of years.

We discontinued them mainly because they were melting after track days..

Thanks again !!
