Default Question for those who have installed their own coilovers

For systems like the KWv3 that do not come with top hats, I've been told that if you need to re-use the OEM top hats, they need to be cut.

I hope sinister2c doesn't mind, but I'm borrowing his pictures from this thread:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sus...our-isx50.html

Rear top hats:

Front top hats:

What do you have to cut and exactly how much?

I like everything about the KWv3 except the fact that it does not come with top hats like the Tein CS or JIC FLT A2s.

I'll be doing a review of mine with pics of the mount that needs to be cut, in a few days hopefully.

The reason the KW's don't come with top mounts is because they are not TUV approved for road use. Since KW is a German company all the parts the make are built accordingly. The same goes for Bilstein, H & R and Eibach. If you buy the Club Sport version they sell for some cars they come with the top mounts but they are not legal for road use and come with no warranty.

Good luck with the install, you'll love the KW's.

Congrats on the KWs! Let me know how it goes, and hopefully check it out sometime and see how it rides over 237.

Best of luck with the install.

Sorry to bring this back but I need some tips on how to cut the top hats. I'm not having luck with my tools and dremel combinations. Are those two bottom pieces welded together? I tried prying them apart but no budge.

see the spot welds? that is the place you want to focus your cutting. I hit mine with a hammer just enough to bend them apart a little more, but right at the spot welds. Then hit that spot with a hacksaw and cut it till its weak. Then bust it off the rest of the way with the hammer. It should come off clean.

Its a pretty simple job...once you get done you will be like DAMN!! no worries! You will love the KWv3's too, i know i love mine!! Hey if you search kwv3 lexus on youtube you will easily find my video showing the entire procedure!

good luck!
