This is actually pretty close to the truth since the variable valve timing technology is unique to this engine, so you'd need to figure out an algorithm to run it, or fix the cam timing and lose all the advantages of variability. Add to this 8 direct injectors with 8 port injectors, and you're looking at a pretty serious investment in software just to get the OEM setup replicated. With the very small number of potential buyers, it's just not worth it.

And you know these are facts because you work at 5Axis? Lexus didn't give them an "open" ECM, they just figured out (with some help) how to make it work acceptably for the show circuit. Why do you think we never see this car running fast laps at Fontana? It can't do it reliably.
