I'm not exactly 100% sure but I think the GTR requires special tools, that's why not every Nissan dealership can work on them.

If you don't keep cars for long, then I don't really see any risk. You should go for it! Whether you end up liking it or not, you'll probably get another car shortly anyways.

IMO I'd be very weary of purchasing a used GT-R; Based on what I've seen, they are mostly driven by enthusiasts who either track it or push it very hard. It's not like buying used 911s that get babied and driven slowly by rich old men. ha ha. So the maintenance and reliability is a concern.

In terms of the interior/amenities.. the GT-R doesn't feel cheap and it's well-built, but it's definitely on the sporty side, so I think it's a totally different feel. And I'm sure there will be a lot of minor features on the F that you'll miss, which can add up. But if the focus is on performance, then that will make up for any shortcomings in other areas.

I think I'm the rare one to say it but, don't buy it. We seem to be on opposite sides here though. You enjoyed the SMG M5 and I found the SMG M6 to be one of the worst cars I've ever owned (check that, it was definately the worst car I've ever owned). You thought the gear switch was "lightning quick"? I hit the paddle and went "One one thous" before it went into gear. And let's not forget the lovely "WTF Someone rear ended me!" then turn around and look stupid because there's nobody there. Anyways, I had a GTR for about 3 months and found it to be very difficult to live with as a daily driver. It's just too raw. It's a punishing ride and there's a lot of squeekage from brakes and things. The interior is really poor and cheap (the bolted on Nav thing was my favorite thing to laugh at). I guess it was just very sporty but not very luxurious. Seats were real nice though. As a weekend car, I gotta think it's a lot of fun but not to get to work in. Also, if you are into doing your own work on the car, I don't think this is one of those you can do much on. I may be wrong here but I think you need all kinds of specialized things for it. I know you need the extra seats so if you are still talking daily driver, perhaps the GranTurismo S or the Maz 4door or even the incredibly ugly Panamera.

My understanding is that nissan wanted the dealers that were gtr certified to invest in a particular lift that was different than what is normally in their service bays....as for the other parts I'm not too sure but could make sense to me.
As for the arguemnt of the 2012 cars vs. previous models, ill agree the '12 is a better car. With that said, you can buy nice 2010 examples now for mid 60's if you look around, so for only $2k in a midpipe and a cobb tuner, you can have at least the same power for much less investment, and not too much worry of the warranty issues that are now a thing of the past. The other upgrades on the '12 are really nice, but tough to justify with nice used gtrs available for good prices (for example, my car bought in september of last year was a dealer owner demo with 5k miles and no inservice date, I was able to buy it for $67k, and there's others out there that have done the same).

Add me to the list of folks who say, GET THE GTR!! It's always about finance and if that's in order then the decision shouldn't be hard. I also agree that the back seats are suitable for your kids...lol.

GTR all the way. Dont waste your money on a 2012. pretty the same car except the upped the boost. Get the 09-11 and save money for mods. The GTR can be driven daily very easy and for little money. I have spent more money on my ISF for service than the GTR

P.S. I might be selling my 09 soon Super Silver with 21600 miles and never launched. Has a few goodies like a cobb intake, mid pipe, exhaust and cobb ecu.

I say get the GTR!!! If you can afford to keep trading your cars every 6 months or so, then u can afford it. We know the interior of the GTR isnt spectacular, but it is a BEAST!!! GET IT!!! LOL

no way in hell you're getting close to 30 mpg on highway. was this on the bonneville salt flats or something?

Don't get a GTR. It's ugly, huge like a boat, and unnecessarily overstyled. The reason that it comes with twin-turbo is because it is such a heavy pig. Regardless of the model, a Nissan is still a Nissan. I don't hate Nissan, in fact I love their cars (I also own a 350Z). Nissan make amazing performance cars, but GTR?.....just stupid, IMO. Don't even get me started about the maintenance on the damn thing.

Some could say that the performance is "amazing" for such an affordable price. In this case price is of concern, then get an Evo/Sti put another $15K in it and it still will be cheaper, reliable, and as fast if not faster than a GTR.

But if price is not of concern, put that money into a last gen. used 911 GT2, much classier, and it would be a much better cars. You can pull it up at valets, in front of casino, and people will be envy you.
