K&N intake heat soak solution

Hello folks,

I can feel some heat soak when the engine is taking off after being at a long stop light when it is hot, once I get going for a block or get up to 60, it feels like the soak is flushed out.

Has anyone with the K&N intake tried to seal off the gaps between the shield and the engine bay?

I'm thinking about taping it off with some insulated tape or fiberglass cast material and then insulating the metal shield. If the rubber molding along the superior margin abuts the bonnet insulation, hopefully, the intake will be sealed off....except at the fender inlet and that top plastic scoop. If not, I might raise that rubber molding or add molding to the bonnet insulation.

My concern is that I may potentially damage the paint at the tape or cast interface and how long this bandage will last.

What do you folks think?

This is always going to be an issue with any short ram open element intake. Even if you seal the gaps, the heat will still radiate into the area of the filter element. The most efficient intake design as far as blocking heat is concerned is the factory intake/airbox.
