I know you had Directed this question at Lance but I can help with this. Normally on rear diff's you just change it out, especially at 1.7qts and 85k. If your from NY you might have some corrosion on your drain & fill plugs? You might want to shoot a little pb blaster or kroil at both the day before. Remove the top bolt first and then bottom for safety. Re-read this thread, lots of helpful info. I missed Lances post on #36 and asked the same question, oops. Here's my tip, change it out after a long drive. The heat generated helps make the fluid come out faster so you don't have to wait forever! This is great seeing more post's on maint on this sub-forum and less about stance.

Sorry I missed the follow up on this. I would just change the oil. It's not terribly expensive unless you buy the Toyota brand stuff (total waste of money IMHO). The gearbox is a whole different animal, and we have a stickied thread on that. I dropped about half the volume from my gearbox close to 150k miles when I dropped the pan, replaced the filter, and refilled. I wasn't specifically worried about changing the oil, but I was concerned about the filter. It ended up being about 5 1/2 quarts. It's all in the gearbox fluid thread.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post8261986 This post has the part number for the crush washer. There is no gasket on the rear cover, it is sealed with a high temperature RTV sealant.

I have 2010 with factory LSD. About to hit 60k.

Manual has 75W-85 listed.

=> anyone running 75W-90?
I am looking at AMSOIL Severe Gear or Royal Purple MAX GEAR.
- any input is appreciated.

Amsoil is probably preferred over royal

I just changed mine and used the new "Easy-Pack" 75W-90. I can't really comment on the oil itself (although, thousands of people swear by it and I have no reason to disagree at this time), but the "Easy-Pack" made it all worth it to me. It was the easiest gear oil change I've ever done - not a single drop of oil spilled.

Amsoil for the win both for engine and diff. Check out the videos on YouTube of oil analysts and the oil olympics. Amsoil #1

I checked mine recently (129k miles) and it looked clear/clean. Would original differential oil look like this or is it safe to say its been changed in the past?

Good question as I had the dealership do mine and didn't ask them what the condition of the fluid was like @ 107k

I had never changed the fluid since I've owned the car and knew it was time to swap in some new fluid regardless after about 53k since I've owned it.

OS Giken OS-250R every time. But that's because I have the Giken spool in my diff.

75W-85 is a fuel economy measure. Good old 75W-90 won’t hurt your diff.
