I agree with Juanca. If you can, put that charcoal screen back in ASAP!

Sure no problem, What exactly is it there for besides blocking a bunch of air flow?

It's there for emissions, but when removed it makes the air around the MAF turbulent and it upsets your A/F ratio. What it means is you lose power.

Ok fair enough. I have been actually reading about it in other sections. What I have gathered is someone (singular) removed the entire plastic screen along with the charcoal element and had turbulent issues. From searching it sounds like an isolated case, but I am new and could be very wrong. I only removed the charcoal element and left the rest of the intake intact. I did go ahead and install a K&N drop in filter and did the diy mod with the air flap. I can tell the car is much louder low end and all the shifts seem more noticeable. I am getting mixed reviews on the K&N drop in filter due to the fact that it may get the MAF dirty, but it seems that is a hit or miss mod?

So far I have about 200 miles on the diy/charcoal removal and 50 miles with the k&n. No lights and no difference in mpg.

I broke my charcoal filter when I removed it, looks like I'll be having to buy a new intake box, or find someone who doesn't want theirs anymore.

Just did the flap DIY today (disconnected the harness) and LOVE the sound. Now I don't have to rip on it so much to hear that sweet intake!

Is this post still active? As I just ordered a K&N intake for my 2013 ISF, I would love to know the results of the testing.

^ I believe the thread may be dead. But there is still some info out there about your intake. From what I have read on other threads, people are seeing some slight power loss due to heat soak on the intake but are happy with the way it sounds. It is also the most common intake used when paired together with nitrous. GL with which ever intake you choose and happy modding bro!

I removed the charcoal as we'll and I haven't dynod to verify any power loss. Anyway freeing more flow equals more power.

Thanks for the info. The intake arrived today, but was damaged in transit.. =(

However, based on your comment and the more I've read about it (no 2-stage, heat soak), I'm not 100% that I want to put it on the car. This would be the first mod to next installing a Joe Z PTS exhaust system.

I've run this back to back vs stock vs. NO airfilter at all and all three numbers at the dragstrip were the same. The intake is not a limiting factor in anyway IMO.

lol I guess you could look at it like that, although I probably won't ever do that myself.
