Has anyone had this problem on any IS-F? I purchased my brand new 08 last week and found that both headlamps had oxidation. I visited Lexus of Santa Monica today and got most of it removed but there is still a tad bit left. What would you do in my situation?

This is the first i've heard about oxidation in the headlamps. It was a brand new 08 and not used correct? I would take it back and have them replace both headlamps with new ones.

 

thats odd. two years old and already oxidized. id take it back to the dealership to see if they would replace them. if that does not work, try cleaning the inside lens to wick away any moisture that may have entered. but if its new and still under warranty, they should be able to correct that problem.

 

The big question is, is it in the inside or outside? im guessing the outside since they tried buffing it out? if so, more than likely your gonna have to take it back to santa monica since they seen your headlight oxidized before any repair/clean up attemps. if you take it to another dealer, there most likely not going to be able to replace the headlight unless theres heavy oxidation. just my thought. havent seen any IS-F with oxidized headlights either... good luck

 

well mines is an 2008 is350 and i bought it new and i notice mines started to have some oxidation starting on outside the top part of the both front headlamps within the 1st year i owned it i dont know whats the deal with that, and i always kept my car clean all the time.

 

There are many products out there that can remove headlamp oxydation. I highly recommend something more specific and designed to handle issues like these. Mothers Power Plastic Polish:



It is very effective in removing the oxidation. And it leaves a protective finish. It's best to be worked with by machine. Elbow grease works, but it may take a while.

Plexus is good stuff, but only good for light jobs and maintenance...not oxidation on headlamps.

 

Thanks for all the feedback. To answer some of the questions, the oxidation was on the outside of the headlamps. It pretty much had it across the whole top edge of both headlamps. I bought the car brand new just last week. Jason over at Aerotect caught it when he was installing the clear bra.

I have a 07 IS250, and i had some oxidation on my passenger light after having for about 3 years at the time...on the outside of course, long story short took it to a paint shop and they buffed it out for $20 his reason he stated was because i wasnt washing it enough and letting dirt settle on any part of the car is not good...but fortunately the light covers are plastic and they do buff out pretty clear again...

 

Two months later and a complaint to lexus corporate, Lexus of SM has agreed to replace both of the front headlamps.
