Remote starter for IS-F

My dealer (Woodfield) is now offering a remote starter for the IS-F.

This is my understanding of how it works:

1000' range, supposedly you hit the start car button on the remote, it starts the car (doors remain locked). It disables the Lexus remote, which means you have to hit the unlock button on the new remote in order to unlock the door (the sensor in the door handle won't work).

Car stays on for 15 minutes, so if you don't get to it by then it turns off and you have to restart (I can't imagine letting my car warm up for 15 minutes!).

Once you turn car off your Lexus remote works again.

Installed price is $599 (before discount).

Has anybody heard of this or had it installed? Any comments or feedback?

I was thinking of getting it done on Monday.

Thx,

Dave

Bredemann of Glenview offered me one when I first bought my IS-F. It sounded similar to that but more expensive if i remember correctly. Only thing I heard was that once you get in the car, you have to turn the car off to disable the remote start. Then turn it back on using your lexus key. I don't know if that's how all remote start systems work but it just sounded like a lot of turning the car on and off to me. I'm thinking about doing it with winter approaching though. Somebody please inform me how these things should operate...

It sounds like an aftermarket remote start to me. There's an OEM one but so far, I believe it cannot be programmed to U.S spec ECUs.

what brand? what features? Absolutely DO NOT buy it unless it's DEI, I wouldn't buy it. Visit this website to help you figure out: http://www.directed.com/
They will tell you, oh yeah this one is just as good or whatever... but they are not.

Trust me, DEI has the best support, warranty, and has been the industry leader for decades. They continue research and have great customer service. Please, please do not buy anything but DEI. I have been installing almost anything into vehicles for the last 7 years and I have seen throughout the years. Most ppl will come back with the off-brand alarm/remote start and end up getting a DEI anyway. Just invest your money in this brand as it is well worth your money. Clifford is my personal favorite. Check amazon.com they have a combo alarm/remote start for around 200. GL. :D Hope this helps!

It's an Audiovox. I believe it's this model: AARS40CS.

It's sold by Lexus (but installed by somebody else) and they say they stand behind it. 3 year warranty. Anybody ever have an Audiovox remote start installed on their keyless Lexus?

Honestly.. dont buy it... theres a brand call python security system.. and the remote works up to 1 mile range.. and it is also a very very good security system for your car.. if someone bumps it.. it will go off.. if they try to steal your car.. it will automatically kill the ignition.. they sell it at all circut cities

Do not buy it. Like I stated before, buy one on amazon.com and have it installed somewhere. It's best to get to know an installer first. This way you know what kind of install they're capable of...
Audiovox/Lexus may say that they stand behind it, but the support or replacement probability is little to none. It will just be a hassle. Trust me. I won't be mad if you decide to go with Audiovox. I just know that you will be disappointed and frustrated once you have an Audiovox installed in your vehicle. Either way, GL.

Check out the website I gave you before. Any one of those brands are available on amazon.com for about the same or less than the price that you are being charged for the Audiovox. Read some reviews on DEI product. Top of the line. ;) I wouldn't recommend something if it wasn't.

Someone else's comment was "check out Python". This is a DEI brand. You catch my drift?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to hold off for now.

Clifford all the way, best alarm there is and warranty! just my 02 cents

dkaplan435 07-13-08 03:58 PM

I'm not looking for an alarm. Only a remote start.

dkaplan435 07-14-08 05:10 AM

Does anybody have a remote start in their 2nd gen IS or ISF?

Please let me know.

pharnhyte 07-25-15 04:37 AM

Just looking to see what you guys have done many years later without making a new thread.

MileHIFcar 07-25-15 08:47 AM

I'd be interested to in seeing what some guys have installed on their F's. Have remote starts on my other 2 vehicles but they are the key in the ignition type.

mcclure 07-25-15 10:42 AM

Stay away from audiovox try to buy something made by dei

subiepunk 07-25-15 11:39 AM

I had the Viper 5901 in my STI and it worked great. I don't know if the actual remote start range was a mile or not though since I never actually measured it.

ISFPOWER 07-25-15 12:38 PM

the thing is what some people dont understand in this thread, the lexus IS has a push button start. and a diff push button start than some of these newer lexus'. Lexus actually offers a remote start for push button at the dealership but the ISF is not listed as a car that is compatible.

you have to bypass all of this, tricking the car to start and not lock yourself out or something. ive went to the best alarm installers around here and for what i have to pay and all of the stuff they have to do, it wasn't worth it. unless some one has a good way without losing any important function, its not worth it IMO.

having to using the oem fob to unluck the car first then using the new fob to start the car, that is too many steps/work . or having the car shut off on you because it doesn't recognize the oem key fob is with you.

Remote starter for IS-F

I actually wanted to do this, but the only way I would is if it was an oem option that you would use the oem fob to start it. Otherwise it's not worth having a second fob, especially with push to start.

I know someone that has a car starter that works off your IPhone that he started up in R. I. While vacationing in Greece. I think it's $699.00 installed!

JdSwiper 07-25-15 05:39 PM

This is the route I was going to go. Its made by Viper which is DEI. I used to sell in car audio for circuit city. DEI is the best made quality and customer service. Little more expensive but has warranty as well.

Its called smart start http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/ The only thing is once you get it installed you pay a monthly fee for the service to use the satellite. The cool thing about this is that you dont have an extra remote, you don't have to cut car off then back on again and it works from anywhere so signal to car is not an issue.

I have viper on my is300 and it works great. I love remote start especially on hot days and cols ones as well. I would recommended this to anyone I just don't want to give up my is f key with roll down windows, and the fact that it is just a fob in my pocket.

I feel smart start is best bet.

You are correct. I agree 100%
