Finally into the 12's!!

So, after 3000 miles, I finally got the chance to redeem myself at the dragstrip. 77 degrees, great lakes dragaway in Wisconsin. 1/2 tank 93 octane. No weight reduction (I think I actually had about 25 pounds of stuff in the trunk). Only mod - lightweight rims - Volk RE30's which shave about 40 pounds of rotating mass.

So, I had 5 runs and like last time, each run got slower and slower. UNFORTUNATELY, my fastest and best run (first run), they had a malfunction so no numbers for my first run. So here they are in order from 2nd run to 5th run:

12.795@111.78 1.968 60'
12.857@111.01 1.951 60'
12.911@110.66 1.975 60'
12.867@109.71 1.967 60'

As you can see, each time I ran, I was losing about 1 mph of trap speed and gaining about .1 second (except last run - I waited 20 minutes to allow it to cool).

I'm guessing first run was about 12.70 @112.xx which is VERY close to 2JZ's best of 12.705 at 113.xx I believe - he had a better DA, but I had better launch and lighter rims. Oh well - at least I'm now the second fastest recorded IS-F!

:woot::woot:

I won't go until the weather gets colder probably... I'm thinking of doing the MVP tracktimes at the Autobahn countryclub...

Oh, BTW, my 2nd and 3rd runs were against a stock M6. His times were 13.122@113.32 with 2.302 60'
13.006@113.07 with 2.232 60'

Poor guy - I felt bad for him because I beat him both times - both times because of his launch (too much spin with the 6 speed).

I think my DA was pretty bad - probably like +2000 so if I could go on a -1000 day, I could probably get into 12.5 or even lower! Any estimates caymandive? The run was done at 6:10 pm at great lakes dragaway.

Those are crazy fast times man. Congrats. I love seeing the times drop and drop. I really want to get back to the track but will wait for it to cool off too. Those 60' times are awesome. I have yet to land a 60' time less than 2 seconds. I am very impressed. Congrats again. This car can really move.

Yeah, it's definitely sensitive to temperature. I took a gas blower with me (one of the items in the trunk that contributed to the 25 extra pounds of stuff) and between my 4th and 5th run, I blew cold air at the engine with the gas blower for a couple of minutes (I looked like a fool) and it still didn't help.

I KNOW for a fact, that when it's like 50's and the car hasn't been idling forever, the car definitely feels faster. I'm thinking when it gets to November and the ambient temps are lower and we can do run after run after run w/o stopping, we'll start seeing mid 12's and even low 12's!

BTW, I'm pretty sure the Volk RE30's knocked a tenth or two because of the recorded IS-F's, I believe I ran on the worst DA and DA really has an effect on ET.

I got lucky with track prep - I had 5 runs and all 5 runs had great launches - I brake torqued just a little, but I'm thinking I should've brake torqued even harder because I didn't spin out at all!!! I always clear off the dirt by doing a quick burnout - never in the water though.

very nice man! I broke the 12's too...but high 12's...lol 12.929, 12.970, 12.977 at Autoclub Speedway in Fontana...temp was 80 degrees...elevation is like 1200 above sea level...(not sure about what elevation it is)...oh was running stock rims, and a lil over 1/4 gas, plus spare removed, floor mats (lol), headrests, engine covers, and my owners manual bundle!!! :D My 60s weren't that good...best one was 2.083...I did that last week June 13th...:)

forgot to add that my traps for those in the 12's were 110.XX :p

I just did a DA check for you and updated the dragstrip journal. You had a DA of over 1800ft and beat your previous time by several tenths! I'm sure the wheels can't account for more than a tenth gain so perhaps is a combination of your better 60' and the engine breaking in.

I saw most of those runs - he does a mean burn-out :)

Very nice numbers...

GREAT JOB! As soon as it cools down, I will go to the track. What did you brake TQ to?

Honestly, I wasn't keeping track of what I brake torqued to. I hit the brakes pretty hard and then pushed on the gas almost to the point of the wheels breaking loose. You could definitely feel the car straining against the front brakes too - the front goes up a little and you can feel that there is no slack in the driveline so as soon as the light goes, I lift off the brakes and hit the gas.

Nice meeting you there! You guys should've seen his M3. Almost totally stock looking but under the hood is a big 6.x liter aluminum LS2 engine! LOL. Once he takes off, you know that it's no inline 3.0.

Lextasy89 Jun 18, 2008 07:09 PM

^^ thats badass.. the place where i got my custom exhaust done does alot of LS engine swaps on the older 3 series, those rides r pretty cool
