IS500 - Lexus will go up against performance giants from Germany

Spied undergoing testing in Germany, the sporty newcomer will go on sale next year, badged IS500 - a name that reflects its specially developed 5.0-litre V8 engine.
The model produces 420bhp, and its motor is hooked up to a tweaked version of the eight-speed automatic transmission used in the new LS - complete with steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters. The IS500 sprints from 0-60mph in less than six seconds, and goes on to hit a top speed of 155mph.
Its aggressive front end boasts a longer nose and bulging bonnet - necessary to house the larger engine. Side skirts, alloy wheels and quad tailpipes set the newcomer apart from lesser models, and it's expected to cost just under £40,000.
