lotus is pretty good with their suspension tuning engineering.

That reminds me of the older Isuzu Impulses that had those badges with the logo that read "Suspension Tuned by Lotus" (or something to that effect)

Something I noticed and is kind of funny.

The IS250 is not even out yet, BUT every week the engine keeps getting bigger and bigger.

IS250

IS350

IS400

IS430

IS460

and NOW.... (drum roll please)

IS500

Maybe we should take it 1 engine size at a time.

Why do I think a IS 460 is coming? Simple, that is what the competiton has. The S4 moved from a TT V-6 to a V-8. The C32 moved to a C43 etc, from a I-6 to a V-8. The M3 WILL move from a I-6 to a V-8 (due mostly to the GTR racing car).

A hybrid IS will proably come and that will be great. An IS 460 would be AWESOME and it would be the only Japanese small luxury sport sedan to offer it.

Don't forget, Rod Millen/TTE fit the 4.3 in the IS 300 with NO problems at all.
Just a minor correction. MB went from C36 Sport Sedan with 3.6L I6 to C43 Sport Sedan with 4.3L V8 to C32 AMG with 3.2L supercharged V6 to C55 AMG with 5.5L V8.

That is not really a fair statement since we never really asked for an M3 to be under $45K. If they make an IS460, it will compete with the M3. M3 can top out over $60K. Are you saying the IS460 should cost nearly as much as a well optioned LS430? I would say $52K for an IS460 would be a fair price.

That aside, I will probably be in the minority here, but I don't particularly like the idea of an IS460 V8. Persoanlly, I was in the camp that wanted the M3 to keep an Inline 6, wanted the S4 keep its Bi-Turbo, and like the idea of the Supercharged V6 in the C32 rather than the V8 in the C55. For cars of that size and class, I rather have the high strung, high tuned, high reving engines. Save the V8 for the 5//6/7 series, the GS/LS, the E/S class and such.

For me, I wouldn't be interested in a V8 IS460. If I want the V8 I'll go straight for the GS430. If I want an M3, I'll probably get an E46 I6. For that size car I'd choose the IS350 still. IMHO, putting V8's in the small compact class sporty cars is a mistake and it ruins the appeal of those type of cars for me.

I think a hybrid V6 based IS would be a much better choice for Lexus rather than the V8.

Agree on every single point.

The only thing I'll add is that I'm willing to keep an open mind about the V8 in M3/others. The S4 I test drove was a real pig, but then again, aren't all Audis?

I'll keep an open mind as well as far as actual performance. I don't doubt it probably will perform better than an E46. However, they are no longer in my view the same spirit of the high strung compact sports cars. It is not turning into just another muscle car. Then again, BMW M fans said the same thing about the heavier E46

I'll believe it when I see it in production. We heard nothing but "theres gonna be an IS430, theres gonna be an IS430 coming out with a v8!!!" With our current models and nothing ever happend except for articles that lead to no where, and the actual cars like the RMM one and the one that was at auto shows that we got pics off with the specs painted on the hood. NO actual production model. So like I said I will believe it when I see it.

Here's the link to the article:
http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=102454

If Lexus has really registered the name IS460 as the article says, this is no longer a rumor but pretty much officially a reality.

Then again, "if" it is as the article says.

Is the rumored IS500 actually a 5L V8 motor, or a hybrid powered car ? There was no rumored IS400 and the IS430 was a single one-off by Rod Millen, and Lexus pretty much closed any rumor on that as they clarified no intention of building (then) a V8-powered IS. But an IS460, imo, is a rumor that will not happen. Rather, I can see a hybrid-powered IS450h, much like the GS450h using the 3.5L gas motor. The IS500 is more of a far-fetched rumor at this time. The big motors are reserved for the GS and LS and the super-LS trims....

Far-fetched? I think not. Please see my other post.

Besides, the 300 extra pounds (the weight difference between RX400h vs. RX330) for the hybrid powertrain will not do well for a car that is meant to be compact and nimble.
