Default Has anybody done this?

Has anybody accidentally tried to put their top down with the trunk divider moved forward or with something in the trunk blocking operation? When a test drove my car, my salesman (a huge a-hole) told me that if I did that, it would break my back windshield.

With winter approaching I was going to go on and move my divider and have a big girl trunk. I am so terrified that I will forget and try to put the top down. I have thought about putting a red sticker on the button it so I won't. It would seem that Lexus would have built in some kind of warning or something that would stop the operation.

With the divider moved it will not opperate. If you put something on top of the cover i'm not sure what it could break but it could be the rear glass. Just move the divider into the big girl trunk and use all of the trunk.

+1 - The cover/divider/shade thing has a switch that is activated when it is pulled back in place thereby allowing the roof to operate. When the cover/divider/shade thing is stowed in the forward position allowing full use of the trunk, the aforementioned switch is not tripped and therefore you can push the button in the car all you wish and the top will not budge. The only time you run into problems is putting something on top of, or underneath the cover/divider/shade thing when it is pulled back in place allowing the roof to operate. Case in point > New Owner ---- Don't do what I did.....

Thank you...thank you....THANK YOU for easing my mind.

I have never put anything on the shade, but for the next few months...I will have a big girl trunk!

Be careful not to put too much junk in your trunk.

There is a safeguard in place, if the latch isn't in place and you try to drop the top it will beep and give you a warning on the dash and not go down.

Unless you're super brave like ISCJonny and remove the sensors for a custom trunk setup!

I'm not brave at all Bleezy. There are numerous times when I drop my top at a traffic light. That is all I need is to jam that thing up and block traffic. Eek! I can just hear all the "rich B***** and her Lexus" comments.

That is how I can tell when I'm in my right spot in my garage.

Assuming you have a 13/14, moving the divider is all you have to do. In my test drive it took a good 5 minutes to get the top down because the divider hadn't been properly seated to trip all the trunk sensors to allow the top to go down. The top would not budge until we got the divider properly seated in the trunk. My assumption above is solely because I have zero knowledge of earlier models. Other responses here make me think this is not a new development. My sales guy was patently not an a-hole, just doesn't sell many convertibles.

This happened to me Saturday. I had backed into my spot and I was having to stand on the curb, so I was having trouble getting the divider moved back. It was warm and I wanted the top down. When I got back in the car and tried to put it down, it said I had to move the divider. When I went back there and looked, one of the little feet wasn't secured in it's hole. Thank you Lexus for making the car idiot proof.
