Default custom convertible???

So I was on my way to the Acura dealer to test drive a TL when I noticed a red 2IS with a tan top in my rearview mirror. I didn't get a good look as it went by, it was going kinda fast and I was a bit in shock at what I saw. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a car cover of some kind(why would it be tan anyway) but would/could some custom shops chop the top off a 2IS??

This was on El Camino in Redwood City btw.

trust me, the vert 2IS is coming(not as described but still on the way). I cannot buy or enjoy it, but it is in the pipeline.

Custom ragtop convertibles can cost about $7-10k. It can be done; I've seen them in car shows. The big problem; they're electrical mechanical nightmares and compromise body integrity. I doubt that someone would do such a thing to the IS, considering that a hardtop convertible is coming soon (hopefully).

The only thing I can think of if not a customized convertible IS is a mistaken Solara or 3-Series...

I saw a new ES350 with a hard convertible looking top. I am pretty sure it was not a real convertible, but, one of those ones that is made to look like a convertible top. I don't know what you call them. I have seen them on the old Cadillacs. Maybe you saw this?

Default Fabric roofs

These type of fabric roofs are typical in Florida. Seems like the old people like that old school look. Personally, I think it is pretty tacky.

I have seen a couple LSs at dealerships with them. Black LS, black fabric top with the "gold" (ripoff) package. It boggles my mind why people think they look good or even add value to the car. I have also seen with fabric roofs: toyota corolla, toyota camry, mercury mystique, ford crown victoria, mercury grand marquis, buicks, lincolns, ford 500 and many more. It is fun to see what type of "edition" they are: presidential edition, palm beach edition, grand floridian edition, diamond edition, signature series, marling edition, to name just a few.

West Coast Customs once quoted 30K to do a convertible make-over on a GS. That was for a mechanical soft top !!!

I agree with you 100%, apparently it came up after they did the 300c as a convertible, I believe they shaved and blended the back doors so they were not visible.
