Default Screen protector for nav screen

I just wanted to share that I put an anti-glare screen protector from photodon.com on my 2015 IS350C nav screen. While not 100% effective at all sun angles, it did cut the sun glare fairly significantly. I used to have to often hold my hand up to create a shadow when the sun was near my Nav screen. Now I do that far less often. You can see the sun glint in the photos off the head unit trim, but the map is still visible.

This was a custom cut product but only cost $45. I used the MXH coating option and it applies very easily using the kit they send along. The website has measurement and installation instruction videos.

Looks great! I just bought a IS350C as a weekend car. Do you mind sharing the dimensions used in your order, and any cornering options if selected? Planning to do something similar for mine. Thanks.

I did 157mm x 92mm. I did not choose the “exact” option in the ordering process. Checking this option results in them not reducing the measurements by 0.5 to 1.0 mm. If I had to do it over again, I would have used 158 mm x 92 mm. It’s just a smidge too narrow by about 1mm.

If you order from them, make sure you check the automotive application at checkout to get the components of the kit that I posted a photo of. I’ve also attached a photo of the model number of my head unit in my 2015 IS 350 C and the details of my order

I chose the MXH finish because it was recommended for auto screens. Also (if I had to do it over again) I would first order the sample kit and try a few different finishes before making a final decision. It’s not expensive. There are sun angles which will still wash out the screen (if the sun is dead center on it for example) and I am curious if other finishes would have performed better in those extreme cases (but they may have made the screen less sharp in normal cases). Hence my suggestion to get the sample kit and test a few options. If you do this I would be interested in the results.

Gotta. Thanks for providing the exact dimensions used and the suggestion to add a mm (158x92), and to purchase the mobile kit. My intent is a little different - since this will be the good weekend car, I plan on driving primarily with the top down. I’ve heard the screen fades rapidly with that kind of use, I’m guessing from direct UV exposure. So my aim would probably be to spec the ABG option, or whatever the highest UV blocking cover is, to slow (or stop) that process.

Ok that makes sense. I had the same concern and was thinking MXT as it is good for outdoor displays but was concerned about its impact on clarity. I would suggest sending them an email asking for their recommendation.

Yep. Here’s the response:

I checked with our product team regarding UV exposure and yellowing, and our materials have not been tested for sustained outdoor UV exposure, so we can’t guarantee performance against UV‑related yellowing. At this time, we don’t offer a solution that has been officially tested for that specific environment.

Because convertible displays experience direct and prolonged sunlight, I would recommend trying a sample pack of our materials first. That way, you can see which material performs best in your specific conditions before committing to a full‑size protector.
Since screen yellowing would be impractical to test for, I declined the sample pack and just went with the order anyway. Blue and UV light are in similar wavelengths, so this should be a “good enough” solution.

Thanks for the reply. I think AGB may be the right choice for you

I put this choice (MXH vs AGB) into Google Gemini and got this back:

“Comparison for Convertible Use
The following details from Photodon.com explain why each might be chosen for your specific vehicle:
  • Photodon MXH (25% Anti-Glare)
    • Popularity: Photodon identifies MXH as their most popular material for in-dash screens.
    • Glare Reduction: It provides a 25% matte finish, which is "just enough" to cut down bright sunshine reflections while keeping the screen easily viewable from side angles—a critical factor in a car where the driver's perspective is offset.
    • Visual Clarity: According to Photodon, MXH offers the least visual noise (pixeling) of their anti-glare materials, meaning the display will look sharper than with higher matte films.
  • Photodon AGB (20% Anti-Glare Blue Light Blocking)
    • UV Protection: This is the strongest choice for protection against the sun. Photodon states that their blue light cut materials reduce ultraviolet wavelengths by 100%, making them ideal for devices used outdoors to prevent UV damage to the screen's internal layers.
    • Glare Reduction: It has a slightly lower glare reduction rating (20%) than MXH, meaning you may see a bit more reflection when the convertible top is down.
    • Eye Health: It is primarily marketed for reducing eye strain and helping with sleep cycles by blocking blue light
Recommendation for Your Lexus IS350C
  • Choose MXH if you want the standard, most reliable balance for a car. It is specifically designed to eliminate enough glaring to make the screen usable in a sunny cabin while maintaining the best possible image clarity and wide viewing angles.
  • Choose AGB only if you frequently leave the top down while parked or drive extensively in high-UV regions (like the desert) and are worried about the sun "bleaching" or damaging the LCD panel over time. ”
