Near Overheating Canyon Run

Yesterday I took my 1600 mile IS500 (oil change with Mobil 1 done at 1k) to Glendora Mountain Road for some spirited driving. 7 miles in, I noticed engine oil temp very close to overheating.

Mostly in 2nd gear / 3rd both ways, going 7/10ths. Car was getting heat soak, definitely felt a power loss when I pressed the throttle when it was getting really hot.

It was a good reminder that our IS500 is not a true F, can't imagine how quickly it would have overheated if it were at the track in this weather.

So is it true that Lexus is developing a retrofit for oil/trans coolers for the IS500?

I think I read about a trans cooler, but not an engine oil cooler.

The aftermarket is available for these though. Just because its not a Lexus cooler doesn't mean you can't make it work.

What was the ambient temp while you were out? It would be kind of sad if it was getting hot in 70 degree weather lol

Also, that is the downside of a lightweight aluminum motor... aluminum heat soaks much quicker.

Wow. Only 7 miles in? I’ve done a couple of very spirited 16 mile windy mountain runs and didn’t have any issues besides questioning Lexus’ OEM tire choice.

Yeah, same here. Looking forward to replacing them.

I got my brakes pretty dang hot this morning when I went from 115-35 ... in Mexico of course... from 115 to about 70 they were strong but I needed to apply more pressure to go from 70ish down to 35. When I got out of the car they smelled fresh lol

This car still confuses me sometimes. My C7 was 460hp but pulled strong well into triple digits. This car struggles a bit in the triple digits. Not that it matters, I rarely go that fast, it's just interesting how more power is slower lol. I didn't think the weight affected the top end, Hellcats still trap crazy high. It is not unique to this car, all the V8 Lexua cars trap lower than a 472hp car should trap imo. Sorry I'm way off topic lol

Not planning to make this my track car and I prefer OEM everything for warranty and personal preference, just a little surprised how hot it got while doing a canyon run.

Around 85 degrees

Compared to the turbocharged German competition, Lexus's 2UR-GSE-equipped cars pull stronger at higher speeds, at least.

For what it is the 2UR-GSE pulls hard especially over 100mph.
