Default Throttle House (Thomas only) IS500

Just an absolutely brilliant video. Thomas nails exactly how we all feel.

Well, it only took reviewers until the final year to finally understand who the car was made for and why it is what it is :P

To be fair to Thomas from Throttle house. He did review it a few years back and also picked it over an m340

although bimmers will run circles around an everyday Lexus performance product, I'm taking reliability for the long run...that and the is500 looks way better than most bimmers.

BMW is just so banal. It's the default car for people who don't know anything about cars.

Exactly!

When I bought my 2021 M2C, I thought I would never buy another car. It was going to be my "forever" car. Guess what? I traded it in for an IS500. There is just WAY more personality in the IS than there was in the M2C.

that's probably far from the truth. having owned my bucket for a min now, I do wish that there was/is better performance. overall, I love my bucket, but the tranny could be better. I've upgraded my lca's, exhaust and intake, etc and it makes the car more enjoyable. eventually I'll get loi's tune and it probably where it needs to be. bimmers are made for a certain people and target those enthusiasts who want that, so they most likely know what they're getting into. true, some buy strictly for name or class, and that's their choice. Lexus/toyota could do the same, but they made a happy median that looks dope and will last a long time.

Living with both brands for almost 3 years now, my experience has been that the BMW gives me the impression that there's lots of electronic aids, controls, and technology to correct things during spirited driving. I.e, you dont' really need to be a great driver to put it through its paces - you're kinda just going along for the ride. Whereas in the IS500, you're "guiding" things a bit more. It's less forgiving. Of course, it has all the safety gadgets and gizmos to keep things from getting out of the control, but you get a sensation that you feel more engaged in the driving experience and are dictating things a bit more . Anyhow, I've not driven the M cars so can't compare the experience with those, so just giving you my impressions driving these 2 particular brands week in, week out for almost 3 years now. One thing for sure, the suspension setup, transmission, and all-wheel drive "bite" in our BMW is amazing. I wish the IS500 had a much firmer ride, and shorter gearing transmission to take more advantage of the narrow power band. Having said that, though, it is way more fun car to drive, hands down.

I wasnt talking about the performance aspect of BMWs. BMWs are no doubt better performance cars. When I said BMW is banal and every non-car person's default luxury car, I meant in terms of what comes to mind for them first when they think of a luxury car. BMW, Mercedes, Audi. Every one has an X1 or 325i or equivalent at minimum - again, not talking about performance models. Everyone thinks they want these brands. This is all you hear about.

Some laps at Sonoma last weekend, brakes faded by the 4th lap and went off due to skill issue

Oil temps hit 255+ F (about 3/4 up the gauge) with trans temps near 260F at the end of each 20 minute sessions even with ambient temps around 55F. Too hot!
