I was seeing the issue at least once every time I drove the car.

FWIW, in Sport mode on a cold start, the transmission will behave exactly like Normal mode until it comes up to temp.

I guess I need to drive around in Normal for a bit to see if I can feel the clunk. There certainly is no point in going to the dealer if I cannot reproduce the clunk. But this TSB seems important enough that I feel it is worth going to the dealer, if I have the problem, because I intend to keep this beauty for a long time. 1st world problem......

^^ My 2022 has been super smooth and no issue, I am just hoping my UE won't have this issue but at least if it does, there is a cure for it

I definitely noticed a clunk upon downshift in my 2023 IS500. I didn't find it particularly annoying and was willing to live with it considering all of the other great qualities the IS500 has. I was happy to hear that a TSB was issued to address the downshift clunk.

I took my car in for an oil change and had the TSB performed at the same time. Now the clunk is gone. Problem solved.

I usually hear the clunk when the car is cold but goes away after a couple of minutes of driving so it maybe difficult to reproduce. I'm more interested in the improved responsiveness. Came from a 2020 supra 3.0 and loved how it drove but was too small for me.

What service advisor did you use may I ask?
To be honest, the service advisor was very chill
and she was the one who set me up with the shop foreman before I even had chance to ask. The ride with the shop foreman was very chill to say the least. I practiced the clunk for a week so I can accurately demonstrate the clunk. 😂😂😂

I've been practicing my clunking for a couple weeks now too. I clunk so good now.

On a related note, I am going to the dealership this weekend to get an interior rattle on my car fixed. I need before my basic warranty expires (it's already been 3.5 years!) but I didn't mention this TSB when scheduling the appointment. Rattles are a tough enough job so I figured one thing at a time.

Relating to interior noises, I have been having a creaking sound from the rear when accelerating or letting off the accelerator for quite some time. I mentioned this when they did the TSB, and... get ready. They told me to install something to increase the rigidity of the rear of the car, such as a Tom's chassis brace.

I am not joking.

I worry about my dealership sometimes.

If you schedule an appointment solely for the creak they will give it 100% attention I guarantee. They probably said that just to get you out their door for the day. I just don't think service centers like to combine jobs, idk why. I've gotten that impression several times which is why I won't bother with the TSB yet. I also don't want them conflating the cause of the rattle with anything about the transmission.

That's true... and, to be honest, I would rather they took care of the TSB and gave me the car back immediately. I just kinda figured they would have the car for a day or two and thought maybe they'd be able to look at both. Alas.

I think I am just going to take the L on the creak and say it's normal (even though it absolutely isn't... I mean, what 2-year-old car creaks every time a longitudinal force is applied to the car?). /off-topic rant

I know exactly how you feel. I had my interior rattle the day I took delivery of the car and had put it off for 3.5 years simply because I was worried about them either not fixing it, making it worse, damaging the interior, or causing new rattles. But to this day it still bothers me, so I finally mustered up the courage and the appointment is set. I only take solace in the fact that they generally guarantee their work.

I'm in the exact same boat. I get the occasional clunk but I don't think that I can reproduce at will. I'm not clunk-full.

I've had the 5-3 downshift clunk (feels more like a small jolt to be honest) since day 1 and I've had my car for 2.5 years now. I've kinda just become immune to it and have accepted it . It's not really annoying or taking away enjoyment from driving the car. But if the TSB is availalbe in Canada, I'll take it in to get the update done.

The only jolt I have experienced is when I accelerated quickly in sport mode but didn't hit the pedal hard enough to activate the kickdown switch and as it upshifted it was jerky. The cure to that was to hit the go pedal hard and activate that kickdown and then it was smooth shifting. otherwise the only experience I have had with a clunk is coming to a stop so, the 2nd to 1st shift.

Are you sure its 2 to 1? Are you watching the gears on the tachometer? Unless youre crawling to a stop, the trans typically goes from 5 (~30mph) to 3 (~10-15 mph) to 1, and 1 isnt even until the car is stopped. This is for Normal + Automatic mode only.
