93 w/Ethanol or 90 Ethanol Free?
Just realized that Bucee’s has 90 octane ethanol free gas. Price is .20 more than 93 octane.
Given the choice, which would you choose? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...183f9ce60.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...762d55b8d.jpeg |

Neither, get the Sunoco 110 :peep:
|
Or Sunoco 94 if you can't find race gas :)

You guys are making me :cry:All we get in the west is 91:thumbdn:

Octane 94 is ideal considering the extremely lofty 12.5:1 compression ratio. I only use Octane 94. It feels lethargic even at Octane 91.
Octane 93 with Ethanol is way better than Octane 90 even without Ethanol. It will cause pre-detonation in an engine (basically, spark ignites prematurely before the compression stroke is fully allowed to complete the air/fuel mixture compression for max power) with such a high compression. Ethanol is not bad for the engine especially if it is around 10%. I even feel a substantial difference between Octane 91 and Octane 94. From what I have read, the engine in Japan was really tuned for Octane 93 (RON Octane 98) or higher. In NA, Octane 91 is considered premium, but really given the compression, you need Octane 93 or higher for best performance. |
I only spring for ethanol-free when I am somewhere I can enjoy it. In your city/suburbs? Forget it. In the countryside? Ethanol-free trumps Octane, go for it.
I live in western WA, puget sound region. I can get “real gas” but it’s a $1/gallon more and does not feel much better in typical diving. But whenever I got to eastern WA, or past to Idaho and Montana, I know where to grab it (app on phone), and do. Once you have space to wind out the car, let the ECU adapt to it, it’s a joy as it’s a kick. I’ve tried it both ways a long time, and that’s how I enjoy/use the pleasure of “real” gas. |
We don’t have “Real” Sunoco. Ours are some low budget Sunoco’s attached to 7-11’s
That said, $10 a gallon is hefty |
