Look forward to have you join the IS 500 family, you will not regret this car!
Yeah I think he's just deflecting and they're using the term "ordering" with a different meaning. Appreciate the thought, and yes my only concern is getting the car in the spec that I want. I think you were the one who suggested in the other thread to scope out other dealers. Problem with that is my other dealership here in Edmonton wants a non-refundable deposit. And other posters in the other thread were saying the same thing. And if you're referring to Kars339, not sure when he exactly placed his order but his post was on May 31st, I actually paid my deposit on May 15th.

I think your explanation makes sense. Lexus makes the batches and when each dealership "places an order" I think they are all just getting in line to snag the next one in the spec that was "ordered" and then they get allocated. To clarify, I didnt mean to say id get the car 2 months after deposit. The sales rep did say about 3-4 months and he said something about depending on when the allocation happens etc which I didn't quite comprehend at that time but with your explanation it now makes sense.

However he did say one thing that doesn't jive with what you said above. He said that when you place an order, he pictures that the manufacturing guys in Japan are just waiting for these orders to come in and once they receive it, they then build it, which takes a month, then the next shipping date is affected by the allocation schedule, then once the car is on the boat it takes a month to arrive in Vancouver (I'm in Edmonton btw), then gets delivered to the dealership. All in all he said it's about a 3-4 months process.

FWIW, I had test driven 2 IS500s last year from the 2 Lexus dealerships here in Edmonton, and the one IS500 I test drove 2x on different days.. suffice to day I spoke to 3 different reps and they all mentioned that I could order in a brand new IS500. So all in all with the one I'm dealing with atm, that's 4 sales reps from 2 dealerships saying the same thing. 2 of them are more senior reps from each dealership. Maybe it's just the phrasing that they use but lijely in reality, the process is how you described.
So during my purchase process I was informed that every cycle year they run one batch for the special appearance package (if applicable) aimed for winter delivery and then two batches of production for the regular is500 (first run aimed for late spring deliveries and another in for late summer/fall delivery). As to the waiting for orders to come in, I guess that kind of make sense,1) my agent did say that if the cars are in production line and not painted yet they can tag that specific car and request to change the color? Maybe that’s what they mean, I don’t know. 2) if I am not mistaken they don’t exactly wait for orders to come in. Regardless if an allocation is given to the dealer they will have to build one irrespective whether there is a buyer or not. As an example while waiting for mine midway, I was asked whether I would like to change my allocation for another color cause they got one coming in at an earlier date probably already built and on the boat. This seems to align with the fact that they make production runs and color combos either get assigned or dealer builds. So, maybe this goes back to 1) where the dealer can change the build of their allocated car to a buyers specification if they find interest in time. It’s all speculation at this point though haha….

The 3-4 month process makes sense. I agree it is just the way they spin it and how we as customer interpret their words.

In any case I am hopeful you will get the spec to your preference and enjoy the car once it arrives, it’s a keeper!

I understand, some dealers will ask for a non refundable deposit because this car is not a high selling volume car and don't want to be stuck with a RWD V8 Sedan as 99% of average Canadians feel they MUST have an AWD 4 cyl SUV! Edmonton is a larger market ao your chances are pretty good, as with those living in the GTA area as dealers are high volume sellers and are given larger allocations.

See if you can find another dealer, even if its outside of your area to try and put your name down. Look at it this way, we are in mid june and if the UE will be a 2025 MY, that means that these will be have to be available by the fall, hence there is not much production time left for the regular unit IMO. Some have posted that some dealers are not even accepting new offers. I just have my fingers crossed for you guys.

And yes, Kars was the one I was refering to but I wasnt aware your name was put on the list back in early may so that certainly plays in your favor and your dealer should have some info for you once the car is built and enroute. Best of luck and please keep us posted

The deposit for mine was, If the car is not on the boat yet you can still get a refund, if it is on the boat on the way here that deposit is non-refundable

In California all deposits held by car dealerships are refundable by law, so to me, a non-refundable deposit just seems scummy. I know other states or Canada don't have the same consumer protection laws, so the last thing you want to do is lock yourself into something you don't want or be forced to pay a stupid tax.

TLDR; Don't put a non-refundable deposit on a car.

Canadian laws are so dated, we don't even have Lemon laws to protect customers that bought a Lemon. The laws so dated that car theft is crazy, so as other petty crime, criminals only gets a slap on the rist and released

This isn't entirely accurate. Most provinces have something like the Sale of Goods Act which essentially reads into contracts consumer protecting provisions, including a requirement that a product be fit for purpose and of merchantable quality.

that’s awesome that probably means the is500 regular trim production won’t stop until later this year?

Just an interesting fact, the Canadian website for Lexus says the IS 500 is now all sold out!! So that's it people....what is in the pipe is all that will be coming with the exception of the Ultimate Edition.

Correction - It appears it was only the special edition (yellow) that was sold out. I need to stop using my phone for looking at stuff, the browser there is not as good

Yea I've done some digging. IS 500 production at the Tahara plant has dropped off sharply. Tahara will be ramping back up to produce 500 "Ultimate Editions" and that's it.

I'm only seeing 48 brand new 2025's on a nationwide search on AutoTrader.

Yea it's crunch time now. If you truly want one of these you can't be picky. I was surprised just how little new 2025's are available in the entire US.

I wonder what the markups will be like on the Ultimate Editions?
