I guess our definitions of engagement are different, but I would agree with you that engagement in the strictest sense with this car does not exist. However, put in in Sport+ and run it at 7-8/10 and it surprisingly tightens up and commands your attention (engagement). Suspension feels more responsive and tighter, as well as, steering feels more weighted and responsive. Run it less than that and it feels somewhat numb and less responsive, in my experience. Throw in a manual transmission and I would think the drive would be more engaging and fun as your attention is not only fixed on steering and suspension feel, but also on engine response from the gearing and rev matching. I feel it just gets you more involved and in tune with the car.

As for the beeping if you turn sharply, I believe you can deactivate that.

Oh, as for the fake engine sound, even Porsche does it too. Truly sad.

I've had my car for almost a year and a half now. I don't equate stiffer suspension and artificially heavier steering to be engaging. My 1990 Miata is more engaging than my IS500, and I like that. Engaging is also tiring and more annoying to drive in traffic.

A manual transmission would mean 2 less gears, which would make the car less fun; it's a peaky power kind of car so it can actually use the 2 extra gears we got over a theoretical manual transmission.

Again, I like being engaged while driving, even in traffic. Takes the boredom out of the traffic flow and just makes me feel more connected to the car.

My 718 Spyder is also a peaky engine with a 6 speed. The gears were well matched to the engine and the 6th gear was for cruising at 2000 rpm. So I believe that a 6 speed can be well suited for this engine if geared right.

I drove a manual everyday for 15 years or so. I no longer care about being "engaged" in stop and go traffic.

Hahaha, understood....personal preferences

There’s a setting for having the camera come on automatically when you go below a certain speed. It’s kind of annoying having it take over your screen every time you come to a stop light but a quick press of the back button will get you back to what you were using it for. It’s better than trying to fumble for the button when you’re trying to park IMO.

This is actually how I leave mine. I never thought much about parking cameras, I’ve almost always ignored them only relying on mirrors when backing into spots. But there is definitely a peace of mind when the display switches over to camera to gauge hazard in the front (parking stops, my kids junk in the garage).

This car isn't about engagement though. The steering is light. The suspension is soft. It has lots of sound deadening. Hell, it has fake engine sounds if you want it. You can't turn off the traction control without also turning off stability control and it beeps at you if you turn too sharply to remind you not to drive aggressively.

I'm sorry, just how sharply are you turning? Even in the tight stuff, at Fiat 124 Spider pace, I don't believe @DLPTony or I ever had beeping! I max out my G-force gauge regularly and don't have beeping.

The tires aren't sliding or making any noise, but I still get the beep at least a couple times a week.

I have never heard a single beep from mine and we participate in vigorous monthly group runs. Incidentally, the DriveWire and the SmokingTire were quite aggressive too and didn’t mention it.

All these people who think a car can only be "engaging" or "enjoyable" with 3 pedals are tiresome.

Lexus hasn't produced a manual transmission in how many years? 10? 15? Why would they either a) design a new manual transmission or b) source one for a limited production car on a dying platform? Lexus isn't going to dump money into what in the simplest terms is a parts bin car just to appease a small subset of an already small subset of their market. This car is priced the way it is because of what it is. Want engaging? More money, simply put.

My previous daily and current local car is a manual and I rode motorcycles for years and you can still miss me with the "mUh MaNuAl" for this car.

Seems like you have the wrong car my Canadian friend. :) Get on autotrader , sell your 500, and get that M3 it seems you are desiring for maximum engagement.

More money doesnt equal more engaging and neither does manual.

All the IS500 is bragging rights over the 350 boys (I dont even bat an eye at 300s, 250s or 200T's. Puhlease.) Also double bragging rights that we didnt have to spend $20k more for the RCF GSF LC500 with the exact same engine.

I meant that if more development went into aspects of the car (manual trans, brakes, coolers, etc.), the price tag on the car would be higher.

Gave considerable thought over the past year about keeping my 350 and getting an LC500 for the V8 experience and the like. Could not justify it any way I skinned the cat - the noticeably heavier weight of the LC500, lack of any real world rear seating, much higher price tag simply ruled it out for me. Of course, you are getting a much more refined vehicle over the IS500 and the benefit of a more modern 10 speed transmission, but I actually found driving IS500 to more of a drivers car compared to the LC. Just my opinion. Maybe I didn't spend enough time in the LC. If the IS500 is a considered a GT cruiser, then the LC is the ultimate cruiser. Great, great car, don't get me wrong, but hard to justify spending nearly $Cdn. 130,000 for one. I'd rather go after a used Dodge Viper or Porsche at that point and get a more true sports car experience for the price.

Yeeeah…I don’t stop there. 😂

An RS6 Avant and super cars will garner heartfelt Oohs & Aahs from me; most everything else…not so much.

1. Most luxury cars can’t be kept longterm. Ours can.
2. We’re near 500hp and naturally aspirated!
3. We have an extremely short supply. The run of the mill Merc, Audi, Bimmer, etc, you see on the road does not.
4. We have arguably one of the best looking sedans on the market today.

And lastly, Hero Spec. With only ten 2022s in the US, Canada, and PR.

The bragging (if I wanted to do it) doesn’t end with just Lexus. 😈😎

I keep my cars long term. My wife's 2013 IS 350 is doing just fine, same for my 1997 Supra Turbo.
Almost 500hp is no joke and puts plenty of smiles on my face.
Even if you include almost identical 2021+ IS family vehicles you do not run into one that often which makes my search for is that a 500 never ending! :)
Best looking? I agree, it's one of the best looking sedans on the road today. I get random compliments about the car, they don't have to have a Lexus to like it.
