2023 rear turn signals

is it LED or incandescent?

SonicRob99 Apr 20, 2023 10:02 AM

Incandescent. I’m looking to replace mine with LED but haven’t taken the time to research. Would like to eliminate the amber bulb color from within the reflector.

The stock turn signals are incandescent, which are odd as they are the only non-LED bulb on the exterior of the IS 500.

I replaced mine with these: SIR IUS LED RLS 7440 7440A Built in Resistor Anti Hyper flashing LED Bulb Turn Signal Light Amber Orange Color Full Aluminum Body Single Filament Error Free Pack of 2 https://a.co/d/0yKaGi0

They work great, brighter than stock and no hyper flashing. Just be careful when installing as the taillight assembly has to come out. When you remove the taillight pull it straight back towards the tailpipes to get it off the clips.

Let me spare you the research:
Buy these: I have them in a Highlander and my IS350 for over a year and no hyperflashing.

Steps:
  1. Tape the edge of the bumper that meets the tail light. Use a lot of tape. Don't cheap out or you'll run the risk of chipping the paint slightly like I did.
  2. Open your trunk
  3. Remove the plastic trim that covers up the bolts.
  4. Remove the top 2 bolts (bottom bolt just holds the bumper. It can stay in.
  5. Pull the tail light straight out
  6. Twist the bulb out
  7. Repeat the steps in reverse for reassembly.

nit-pick: If you have a base-model IS 500 (not the Premium), it will also have incandescent front turning indicator bulbs. The Triple Beam LED lights have LED front indicators instead. Just to be sure.

I bought these on amazon for the rear signals, mine have premium headlights and no hyper flash after install

This worked beautifully. Easy to do. Tails were a little stubborn to pull off at first but I think I’m overly nervous with new car. Great call on doubling up on painters masking tape. Love the look both when lit, nice and bright, and tail housing looks much more clean now too.

Tried to attach a compressed video, file size too large but hopefully it shows well enough.

edit: technically my first official mod lol. 715 miles, cherry popped 🤣

When you remove that plastic trim, there’s 2-3 white bolts behind the rear light. Those are the ones I remove? I tried doing this today but was stuck when I saw those bolts.

There’s a “how to” in the owner’s manual with pictures.

Yes it’s those. I don’t remember mine being white though?

My bad. I found them and removed them. The issue I am having is removing the damn rear light. I added mask tape around the outer, just can't seem to pull out the light. I feel like I'm going to break it. Is it tough pulling out the rear light?

oh yeah. You really really have to pull. Make sure you really covered the area with tape and it might help to have someone nearby to catch the light just in case because it’s super hard and then it just fully releases lol

Haha wow, and it just pulls straight out or should I wiggle it side to side? I'm thinking the masking tape I put around it is not helping in removing the rear light.

Yes straight out. Make sure you tuck the tape into the seams. I found that take a long piece of tape, sticking it to the side of the light gave me some leverage to pull and get the light out quickly. It’s the same on our Highlander and I definitely found the Lexus to be tougher to do.
