Did they put in the standard full synthetic 0W20 for that price?
It is objectively a rip off because you get 2 free services and he was at 5000 miles, meaning he got only the 1000 mile service free which isn’t even a real service.

According to the original post, the 5K service was redeemed at 1,000 miles. It doesn't matter when the 5K service is performed, the customer only gets one 5K service.

That's actually really good to know. Thanks!

I got two complimentary oil changes. One after 9 months, the second 12 months after that. Didn't hit the recommended mileage, but figured it was time to get it changed. After the second one, the dealership recommended I start bringing it in every six months regardless of mileage, but I'd be changed for those of course.

That was added to the maintenance schedule after the floor mat/unintended acceleration crashes that resulted in recalls in 2010.

Each vehicle that visits the service department must have the driver's floor mat inspected and removed if it cannot be secured.
The driveway attendant inspects the floor mats when checking-in the vehicles and marked off on the form as "Inspected-OK".

Below are examples of what I saw once each week after their inspections. If the floor mat can't be secured, it goes into the trunk. I attached pictures to the repair orders, but I don't believe anyone reviewed the pictures.

Is it too extreme to say if you drive with your floor mat like that you shouldn't be driving at all?

Yep. And I was outside the 12 month window at 5k miles. Getting 9.1 qts of full synthetic at $100 or less is a deal. And they were done in 40 minutes which included a multi point inspection.

You get 2 free services. On the IS500, each service is an oil change. Not a deal.

Lexus gives one free oil change at 10k. If you’re getting more than one free oil change, one of them is dealer dependent. My dealer on west side of Houston doesn’t give more than one free change.

The 5000 mile service is not an oil change.

More misinformation. The IS500 requires an oil change every 5k miles, therefore the 5k mile service includes an oil change. 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k, etc. You get 2 free services. So 5k and 10k. Those include oil changes. What is so hard to understand, people?

My apologies. I didn’t realized I had chased a link away from the RX350 (2023-2025) forum. RXs only get one free oil change at 10k. I guess our engines don’t make metal like an IS does. 🙂

Cheers.

I would add to this the following anecdote. I did a 1k service followed by a 5k service. I also elected to get my oil changed early shortly after the 1k service once I started reading about how post-break-in oil changes are a good idea, so I did that at around 2,500 miles. I paid out of pocket for that one, but Lexus covered the 1k and 5k services. However, when I got to 10k, I was no longer covered. I am not sure if this is the case for everyone, but for me, it seems the 1k service counted as one of the two free services.
